I saw Restrepo in hope to understand what my Son is going thru in Afghanistan! I thank God that my Son survived his first combat 15 month tour in Iraq and now almost 3 years later he is on his 2nd combat tour! I am too old to fight now and retired back in Feb 2010 with roughly 30 years in the Active Army and Calif Nat Guard. I wish that I wasn't told old to fight..........For I gladly take the place of my Son and let him enjoy life with his family.....

I trained with Restrepo throughout AIT, and BCT - he's listed as graduating BCT at Ft. Benning - but he actually graduated at Ft. Sill, OK. He was a great guy. He sat with me and my family at the graduation meal. Won Top PT award, won a lot of other honors in graduation - both BCT and AIT. Knowing he's gone is a real wrench at the heart...the world was a better place with him.

Instead of bickering about politics and who's to blame. Maybe we should just take a moment and realize what our troops have gone through and still go through today. This movie really depicts how tough it is for our boys out there. Weather you support the war efforts or not, you gotta support our troops. They are doing their job in no man's land and dying everyday. I am forever grateful for any and all who have served this country. God bless our troops and their families.

To Tim Hetherington, Restrepo, SGT Ruegul, and anyone else who passed away during this war RIP, you will never be forgotten. People say the army is weak but they havent seen anything. Im joining airborne infantry in a couple of months and i hope i dont get as much of an impact as these soldiers did. If i do then i will prepare myself. RIP soldiers, and Hooah to your service.

Haven't seen this movie yet, but just finished reading WAR by Sebastian Junger. Wow. I have always admired and had the utmost respect for our military, but you never really think or know exactly what those people deal with. I am in awe now. Just to hear what they go through on a daily basis to me is the most humbling thing, and when I think about my problems, well... I really don't have any. I'm just a 43 yr old mother of two and I thank God everyday for these brave soldiers.

Also, even if you don't agree with OEF or like the military, this was a really great movie. The writing really presented the soldiers as both infantrymen and as people really well. Kudos to the cameraman for catching those shots, like when that one guy almost got his hand blown off and the ambush after they left that town. That took balls yo. Even the interviews were done really well. I like how they used moments of silence for emphasis. I'm sure questions were being asked, just not on film.

I had been waiting for this doc for quite some time now. Watched it via Netflix online. This documentary gives the keyboard warrior a first hand look at how day to day life is thousands of miles away from home in a country where others are constantly trying to kill you on a daily basis. Brutal and honest, this film has made me realize more how hard these soldiers are living out there. Much respect to all the armed services.

Supported the 173rd and 82nd Troopers that year out of the 82 pond Combat Aviation Brigade. Flying into the KOP, you saw conditions and soldiers that looked like there was a time glitch taking you back to a fire base from Vietnam. Remote, rugged men who were shot at every day. They might have looked a little rough there, but they never looked scared. Salutes!

My cousin shot some of the footage that appears in this documentary. He said they could never see what they were shooting at, so they just shot at gun flashes. I think he did 8 years in the Army and only fired his weapon twice. I think he felt guilty about it, because we come from a family that has served in every American war. My grandfather was a war hero in WW2 so it must have felt like a lot to live up to. This was a great film

After watching Restrepo I think there should be a law that prohibits Hollywood from making films about the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. This documentary makes the action scenes in The Hurt Locker (good movie), Green Zone, Lions for Lambs, or any other movie about warfare look like an episode from Chip n' Dale Rescue Rangers.

If you found this at all interesting then you need to read War by Sebastian Junger. He actually went to the Korengal Valley for like a year. He even tells you about the Guy named Restrepo who that base was named after. I'm not even half way through and I love the book!
@MrTambopaxi
@MrTambopaxi 14 жыл бұрын
Like Halo2nothing11111, I read Junger's "War", which he wrote while making "Restrepo", the movie, in collaboration with Tim Hetherington. I agree, the book is a must read if you want to make sense of "Restrepo". I should also say that "War" is the best combat chronicle since Michael Herr's "Dispatches" which was about the Vietnam conflict...

@utne7 That was actually one of the points he makes in the book (Sebastian Junger--War), that everything out at Restrepo is life and death, down to your shoelaces. When you get back home it's hard to understand that some things don't matter. It's a great book.

It saddens me to see low moral in the most advanced army in the world. And also the way civilian casualties are treated. I couldn't stop wondering throughout what would they do in a war against a well equipped and organized force, a WW2, let's say, scenario. Your thoughts?
