this has really helped me as one of my strings snapped today and i was panicking, and i was like 'what should i do?!', and no other videos that i looked at actually helped... so thankyou :) when i wrapped the strings round the tuning pegs i haven't done it as neat as you so every time i play, the strings gradually become flatter so i have to keep tuning them sharper again and i'm worried i'll keep tightening them until they snap. can you do a video on wrapping them round the tuning peg neatly?

I'm trying to restring my Fender Squire, but for some reason all the strings are too close to the fret board and when I press down on a fret there's absolutely no sound whatsoever. I have DR 10-46 gauge strings...would getting thinner gauge strings sort out this issue?

Jonathan LeMaster That's a truss rod adjustment, if you're not comfortable doing that, I'd advise you to take your guitar to a luthier to do the truss rod adjustment for you.

My strings look odd I think think I tightened them the wrong direction Edit: the strings look weird at the tuning pegs, like the way they branch off from the nut.

@segerfan you mean the ball end of the string? All you need is to make sure you get the ball to sit in tremolo hole, its not supposed to go through the entire guitar.

LivetheHighestGrade is right, unless you need to work on the fretboard, change the strings one at a time. If you want me to post pics on what happens I will. I learned the hard way, as for some reason the neck tension changes significantly. Guitar techs have little secrets in the way they restring. I believe they do it so fast it doesn't give the neck a chance to overreact, just saying, this is all from recent restringing issues, psingman

nice video, i think 10's on a strat is absolutely the best gauge, it gives more tone and better tuning stability. i have a strat but not a squier ,an real fender and i use 10's on that. GHS are great, i use them when i couldt afford the elexir strings but for the most part i use elexir strings.

I usually string mine like you did but according to the pros that is all wrong so i will change the way i do it. check out will kelly a pro guitar tech i think he is good but i think he is overkill he even suggest soldering your strings

I watched a lot of videos on restringing guitars. None have showed the stringing of the G,B or E string. Do you use more wraps or just use the same way as the others?

You should have wound the Low E string over, not under the tuner.The string should be running level with the neck(after the nut), not a downward pull. Your going to gouge your nut and have tuning problems.

Then your strings were too big, 11s 12s and 13s are meant for drop tuning not standard

REALLY?!?! This tutorial was great up to the part where you started tying or locking the new strings in the pegs. I nearly messed my strings up maybe I even damaged them. There was no way to lock them in and the strings kept on overlapping no matter how much pressure you keep on the string it kept on overlapping. Thanks to you I am furious Thanks A LOT!! well that's part of stringing it man some people don't know this stuff and are just beginners at it. for me it was just instinct to clean it before stringing but everyones different in the way they clean it. I always like to clean it and string it my guitar and I usually have a pretty good relationship lol better than what I can say for my girl friends lol.

I have the same unhealthy relationship with my chunks of wood ;) the video just went on about it too much. It assumes you can remove strings but doesn't assume you know to wipe down your guitar while the strings are off.
