When the floor or foundation base of your construction is not level throughout, or the soil is loose sand and not compacted enough, there will be shifting and settling of the base to achieve equilibrium from the pressures of the water body on top. A pond liner is a safety measure to guard against this type of situational inevitability common in large fish ponds.

Sand is the one that gives cracks on the wall of the pond, A good plastering sand will do d work .but using the tarpaulin is good. too

I always find it surprising that anyone would construct a concrete pond without pond liners, even for precautionary measures and safety backup. It makes absolutely no sense and it is foolhardy and unprofessional so as to construct or supervise/project-manage one without some impermeable fabric liner of some type. I suspect your lack of proper building construction techniques is the main reason why you are having problems with this project. There is more to pond construction that simply pouring oodles of cement on concrete blocks. The cracks are simply the result of the concrete not curing long enough and drying too fast. After construction, you need to cover concrete with plastic for 3-4 weeks to prevent cracking. Cracks lead to water leaks. PVC, HDPE, EPDM and Rigid liners. - You need to ensure from the manufacturers that they are fish safe and UV stabilised. PVC (Polymerizing-Vinyl-Chloride) and HDPE ( High-Density polyethylene) are by far the cheapest. Without a doubt EPDM (Ethylene-Propylene-Diene-Monomer) is easily the toughest and best pond liner for fish ponds and aquariums.
