Chizuru Arai is a 2x world champion (2017, 2018) and has an exceptional winning percentage as Travis pointed out. The #1 ranked judoka Yoko Ono who did not make the team has never won the world championships (bronze in 2018, silver in 2021) although she did win the Masters in 2021 and has two continental championship titles. You couldn't have gone wrong with either choice although I can see why the Japanese chose Arai. She seems to be more physical than Ono, and you rarely see her get bullied around. Both are fantastic.

In Brazil a lot of people are mad that Portela (BRA) wasn't awarded waza-ari in golden score against Tamaizova (RUS)

Hey I talk to my friend the reason why I stopped doing judo about 15 years ago is because when they started not let you grab the leg or anything what’s your thoughts on that. I watched a couple matches where they were doing certain moves and because they pushed it over using their leg a little bit and then all of a sudden their hand they got disqualified. And then another thing that I want to talk about was for me I could turn people over so easy when I did judo I put so many people in that 22nd pen it didn’t matter what level they were because how high of a level of a wrestler I am and then because of my jujitsu it’s just super easy so why is it that when they go Face down! Why didn’t they just left them up a little and turn them over on the back?

Success rate with Ne waza would be fairly low among high level judokas. Not to mention potentially wasting a lot of energy turning your opponent just to drag into golden score when you’re dead tired. You are right, if you have a strong wrestling and bjj background, you can lure your opponent down.
