After jacking up prices across the board during the pandemic, retailers nationwide are slashing prices in hopes to get customers back into their stores and shopping. The problem? Everyone is going broke and does not have the extra cash for frivolous items that are not process it is right now. In fact, we're seeing unemployment claims take up to the highest level that we've seen since August 2023, as we head deeper into this recession.

High prices for everything have severely affected my plan. I'm concerned if people who went through the 2008 financial crisis had an easier time than I am having now. The stock market is worrying me as my income has decreased, and I fear I won't have enough savings for retirement since I can't contribute as much as before.

It's recommended to save at least 20% of your income in a 401k. You can use online calculators to estimate how much you should save based on your age and income. Saving at least 20% of your income in a 401(k) can help ensure that you have enough money to retire comfortably. By saving this much, you can take advantage of investing in the stock market and potentially grow your retirement savings over time.v

Due to my demanding job, I lack the time to thoroughly assess my investments and analyze individual stocks. Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.

I've always done my own repairs ever since they tried charging me 160 in 1990 to put in a new garage disposal. It's so easy to install and it only cost like 25$. They are still cheap. And when my dryer belt broke and the guy wanted 80$ for a belt I went to auto zone and the clerk matched it up to a 5$ belt. Even ordered the ceramic brackets right from the company for the dryer heating element..they are like 1.50 each. Most parts have part numbers on them and you go to the company website and put in make and model..then order. I've learned over the years and taught my kids; if another human can do it, so can I..im human too! 😉

IKEA used to be THE place to buy affordable, durable furniture. It was a great retail model. Buy a sofa and when the cover gets worn out or you just want a refresh, buy a new cover instead of an entire sofa. But then they got greedy and started jacking up their prices. It's now mostly unaffordable and they swap out the furniture so quickly, by the time you need a new cover they aren't selling them anymore. Greed destroyed their business model.

Our retirement budget was fine a few years ago , and now the expense is rising above my fixed income. If we don't find a solution, we will have to sell our home. Thanks to the idiots that run this state, CA, and our country, our dream is over. I can't go back to work, im 63 & fighting cancer & my wife is sick. We're in survival mode !!! I don’t know about the US as I’m in the UK but you can get amazing bargains on second-hand furniture here. Apart from mattresses, I’d always look at buying second hand furniture first. My sister saw a fancy TV stand on instagram - it was very expensive. She bought the wood, which the store cut for her, the metal legs and made it herself - it looks awesome. When it comes to tables, shelves, drawers etc, you can buy them second hand and then paint them the same colour, if you want them to match. You can also save a fortune by cooking in batches and bulking out food e.g, when I make bolognaise, I add courgette (zucchini ?) - it’s delicious and means I get more and freeze it. I refuse to be ripped off. And finally, I quit drinking alcohol - healthy for the body and wallet.

Still booking 4-6 kitchen measures week plus our lead times for kitchen installs keeps on increasing. but yeah, they have been raising prices past two years. it is nice working for a company that is privately owned and not owned by wallstreet or shareholders. They stick in the game longer, hold on to people instead of laying off at first sign of bad news.

Remember, the price of the house is exactly how much can be sold not what they ask for. The current listings are way overpriced and they stay on the market for months. The sellers dump money on property taxes, insurance, HOA, sewer fee, electric, water the grass, etc. The more they lose the more they will become stressed and will make huge price cuts.

Funny you mentioned Michaels. I was there just yesterday. Haven't been since before the pandemic. Lately they stepped up emailing me all these sales and coupons that I always deleted until yesterday. I have a very stressful job, knitting and crocheting is my therapy so I literally won't kill people. I can spare $20 for some new yarn. Although I agree with you that spending on arts and crafts is kind of a luxury right now. As I was driving there I noticed that a lot of other big name stores around that area have closed. I was so surprised because this is a wealthy part of town and once again Teslas were all around me on the road. I found a nice yarn and I used my 50% off coupon on it. They also had some half off sale on another one and I bought a couple of those too. I ended up paying $38 with tax which is low for me, I used to spend hundreds there years ago. Ladies and men with wives who knit will understand. 😜 Thank you for the video. And let me just add for a fun fact that I also had to fill up my car and gas was $4.89 a gallon. Yep, WA state is one of the most expensive states to live in but I love it because it's beautiful. Wish it wasn't so blue but I'm not going to get into politics here. Have a fantastic day everyone.

Exactly! My grandparents were so frugal but they had a TON of money on both sides. I remember my grandfather telling me "you want to make money while you sleep." And I guess that attitude passed down to my dad (RIP), because I remember going to his house one day and I had bought something I really liked, so I wanted to show it to him. So I said "Look at this! Isn't it cute? It was on sale...I saved 50%!" My dad replied "Well, if you're spending, you're not saving." Obviously I had no retort, and that has always stuck with me.

In my more modest working class neighborhood there are several homes that have been on the market a long time. Meanwhile local politicians keep forcing in stack and pack buildings as "affordable housing" despite citizen pushback and some of these projects have gone bankrupt and rents on these units are super high.
