Retay Masai Mara 20 Gauge Jams

The sample Masai Mara 20 gauge jammed consistently with both 7/8 oz. and, as shown, 1 oz. lead loads. A real shame.

Randy, I always appreciate the honest reviews. For the last two seasons my go-to pheasant gun is my 20 gauge Masai Mara. I don't have any cycling issues when using standard pheasant loads, and I am putting more pellets in birds than with any other shotgun I have owned. In short, it has become my favorite shotgun. Mine is about 3 years old. Do you believe it is likely/possible that Retay has changed some aspect of their manufacturing process or the parts they are using?

They have cheapened the product and jacked up the prices: not a good combination.

@@RandyWakeman i will say ive been shooting an a400 since 2015. I had a jamming issue arise on year 2 of using it and it was sent back to beretta. Something in the trigger group was at fault and it has been flawless for many years now. It does eat cam pins though so I change mine out every couple of seasons to be safe.

I'm always interested in good 20 gauges. As it happens, my favorite 20 gauge autoloaders are no longerr made: A-5 Mag 20, Browning B-80, Benelli M2 Comfortech. I have a new style M2 20 gauge on the way in, so we will see how it does. I'm hopeful.

@@RandyWakeman Let us know how it goes. I purchased an SBE3 12 gauge earlier this year. Patterns are 60/40 and centered so I'm pleased. None of this 8+ inches high and left business, or "float the bird" nonsense. Hoping you got a good one too.

I will be interested to see your review on your new Benelli m2. I recently bought a 2023 model that shoots 2" to the left @15yds, i like the "improvements" but my shotguns have to shoot straight so i am not happy

Retay states they require a minimum of 3 dram equivalent to function reliably (for the 3" Masai mara). I think the AA are only 2 1/2. Definitely a better duck gun than dove (or clay) unless you watch your ammo selection.

Mine did that out the box. 2 years later eats like a dream. Im fact im pretty sure if fairly common witg inertia guns.

No, it isn't common at all-- this is a poorly tested or non-tested design.

Retay has attracted our attention with its aesthetics in the country. We thought it was a very good brand, but most of our weapons did not work and did not hit where it was thrown at least once, some of them went to the factory 3 times and the spell was broken. I am very sorry for this situation on behalf of my country, but this is the truth. Thanks

Me neither. I know there are some Turkish guns out there that people seem to rave about, but most are junk. I work too hard for my money to take the risk that I might luck out with a good one. I'd rather pinch my pennies and buy a "B" gun.
