There are 3 types of deposits in tenders. 1. EMD or Bid security. Genaraly 1% of project cost. This is to hold contractors not to escape to take up works after successful in tenders. 2. Performance guarantee. Genaraly 5%. This is to hold the contractor not to escape from complete the work. 3. Security deposit/Retention money. This is to hold contractors to complete defects in the works for the guarantee period.

No , security deposit is amount which is taken at the starting of project by the client while retention money will be during execution phase at the time of bill claim it's amount deduction from bill claimed by contractor which will be considered as retention money and it will be given at the successful completion of the project by the client to the contractor. and security deposit will be also given at completion
