‘That didn’t go anywhere’ in reference to the poor patients who were trying to fight back against being forced to take a medication that meant they had reduced cognitive function and still had symptoms… 😔 What is wrong with doctors if they thought they could just ignore what their patients were saying?! While I find this infuriating I really needed to see this right now because I’m going through this myself. I’m so unwell and only getting worse but they will only give me T4 which always ends up being too high compared to the T3 level that I need to be able to think properly. It’s horrible and there’s not many options to do anything about it…

I am in UK and (after 25 years of problems with just levothyroxine only) I managed to convince endo consultant to put me on combined therapy (20mcg liothyronine and 125mcg levothyroxine). Still not handed over to GP... Lab tests requesting T3 tests constantly ignored by the lab despite consultant requests... so T3 adjusted on my subjective feeling rather than blood levels Feeling a lot better

I live in UK. I was diagnosed in 1998/9, in my 40's. I was told that I could only be given T4 synthetic, Levo. I tried sourcing my own T3, asked my GP to help with a trial of the T3. He told me that T3 is an illegal drug which he would not help me with and which I was never to mention again in his presence! Go figure? I know more than he does! I have never been well since diagnosis, I cannot lose weight and believe me I have tried very hard. But I can gain at a terrific speed at times. Hypoo thyroid is gradually killing me I believe!

I think for the dose of t3 it's not enough to think only on bodysize. Patiënts with poor deodinaise maybe need more.

Thank you very much Doctor Bianco for this informative and interesting presentation.👏👏👏 As a man living without a thyroid for already 6 years and having struggled with T4 therapy alone, I want to confirm that reducing T4 and adding T3 twice a day has improved the symptoms a lot. I have not found the right proportion for me yet because I still have some symptoms, but I am sure that now I am on the right path. The only thing I am concerned about is keeping TSH at least closer to the lower range. T3 actually suppresses TSH a lot, which, in its turn, as far as I know, can negatively affect T4 to T3 conversion. What if TSH is slightly lower than the below range? Is going to effect seriously on T4 T3 conversion? or going to have some important long term effects on a patients health?

Reverse T3 isn’t even discussed. Also a patient either pituitary issues might have low TSH, T3, T4 all at once. Reverse T3 when high can block the effectiveness of T3 so needs to be treated with only T3. Raising T4 in patients that have too much or higher Reverse T3, will increase Reverse T3 and decrease the effectiveness of T3.

All doctors need to learn. Doctors are not trained in thyroid and we suffer we are the forgotten sick

I think that Doctors really don't want to know the Free T3 lab value, because they prefer to believe that T4 MAGICALLY converts to T3 and also... they really don't know what to do if T3 is low. 😉
