Hi Kim - Very interesting results with copper. I find when doing reticulation - usually sterling silver but also copper - that I can get most dramatic results by heating the surface until it almost starts for flow, or actually does flow a bit, and draw the torch back straight away. It is as if the heat is pulling the surface into crater or texture. This might be effective on your thicker pieces especially. - thanks for the great demo. Bob Warick

AWESOME VIDEO! Was looking on how to do this and didn't even know what to call this technique. I stumbled upon your channel because I was looking on how to do this. THANK YOU!

It's a shame you didn't show the polished up copper plates, was really curious how those turned out!

I year one and I still haven't polished the copper up ;)

Really helpful thank you. I experimented with sterling silver, I didn't bother depletion guilding first, and it came out really well. So I'm not quite sure why the depletion guilding step is important. Any ideas?

Thanks for the brilliant demo! 👍😊 This was very interesting, especially the brass because I saw a video of someone making brass grain/balls to demonstrate how brass can and will explode when overheated with a torch. I decided then to never play around with brass considering I don't have a proper work space and I do everything inconveniently at my kitchen stove. Do you think the brass exploded because it was such a small piece? Your results with it looked amazing and I'd love to try brass reticulation IF it's safe. Well, as safe as one can be while playing with fire. LOL! 😄

What torch are you using?

Thanks for the video. I have an issue... my silver .925 doesn't create this effect. I heated it but it's not react...what's can be the problem? Thanks

Hi Diego, it's likely that you haven't repeated the process enough times. The process is time consuming but a great project to get stuck into! It requires you to heat the piece of silver numerous times in order to oxidise the copper to the surface. Each time you heat the piece, you need to pickle it to remove the oxide, brush with a brass brush and repeat the process up to 15 times.
