I had eye test at Christchurch hospital about 8 weeks ago, I was sent to see surgeon 4 weeks later but that appointment was canceled and was giving another one two weeks later, went to that appointment and was asked why I was there, the tests determined the retina in my left eye detached, it’s now been couple of weeks since that appointment and was giving a date of three weeks away, I guess I’m going to lose the sight in that eye, this is the state of the health system in New Zealand.

I know this video is old but I hope you (the creator) will see this comment. I was diagnosed with a retinal schism a few years ago (before 2020), I even went to a John Hopkins eye specialist. They told me there was nothing they could do but to keep an eye on it & that if it detaches then they'll consider surgery, that always felt off to me & I didn't go back. I only went in the first place because when I went to get my eyes checked (I have severe nearsightedness) I told them about these flashes I see every once in awhile. I see a yellow half moon shape flash across my vision here & there. They told me I needed to go to a specialist so I did. Was the doctor correct? Is there anything I can do to prevent it from detaching??

You should go to see retina specialist for second opinion. The sooner the better for your eye .

I'm dealing with it now, I had this to happen in July. It's still going on. I had 3 tares in my left eye.
@MedicalCentric2 ай бұрын
@ramonhollins5470 I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with this. Having tears in the eye, especially multiple ones, can be concerning and may cause ongoing discomfort or vision issues. If you’re experiencing persistent pain or other symptoms, it’s crucial to follow up with your ophthalmologist to assess the healing process and ensure no further damage is occurring. Depending on the severity, your doctor may recommend treatments such as eye drops, patches, or in some cases, surgical interventions. It's important to stay under medical care to avoid complications and support your recovery.

Yeah I have to get this surgery soon I can't see...but I'm scared to go under Anastasia...
@MedicalCentric4 ай бұрын
@T_sexc It's completely natural to feel nervous about going under anesthesia, especially when facing surgery. Many people share your concern, but it's important to remember that anesthesia is generally very safe, and anesthesiologists are highly trained to monitor you closely throughout the procedure to ensure your safety. Here are a few things that might help ease your worries: 1. **Ask Questions**: Talk to your anesthesiologist or surgeon about your concerns. They can explain the process, what to expect, and how they'll ensure your safety, which might help you feel more at ease. 2. **Express Your Fears**: Let your medical team know you're anxious about the anesthesia. They can offer reassurance, address any specific fears, and provide support to help you feel more comfortable. 3. **Focus on the Outcome**: Remember why you're having the surgery-to improve your vision and quality of life. Focusing on the positive outcome can help you push through the anxiety. 4. **Relaxation Techniques**: Practice deep breathing, meditation, or visualization techniques before the surgery to help calm your nerves. Anesthesia is a routine part of many surgeries, and the medical team is there to make the experience as safe and comfortable as possible. You're taking an important step for your health, and soon you'll be on the road to recovery and improved vision.

Does fluctuating vision a warning sign of retina detachment???
@MedicalCentric Жыл бұрын
Fluctuating vision can be a symptom of various eye conditions, including retinal detachment, but it is not always a definitive warning sign on its own. Retinal detachment occurs when the retina, the light-sensitive layer at the back of the eye, becomes separated from its normal position. The most common symptoms of retinal detachment include: Sudden onset of floaters (small, dark spots or specks that float in the field of vision) Flashes of light or lightning streaks in the affected eye A shadow or curtain-like effect spreading across the visual field These symptoms are typically described as sudden and persistent, rather than fluctuating. However, it's important to note that the presentation of retinal detachment can vary from person to person, and some individuals may experience different or additional symptoms. If you are experiencing any changes in your vision, including fluctuations, it's crucial to consult an eye care professional for a comprehensive evaluation. They will be able to assess your symptoms, perform a thorough examination of your eyes, and provide an accurate diagnosis. Timely diagnosis and treatment of retinal detachment are crucial to prevent permanent vision loss.
