I'm a medical student and I honestly had no idea what a red reflex was. This makes so much more sense. Thank you.

Thanks, great video. I've been discussing red eye reflex this morning with a client (I work in a health centre for babies in Australia) and it's great to have a quick refresher and explain these things to mums. Simple and succint and easy to understand. Very much appreciated.

Thanks John, appreciate your response. I've removed the post in question as it didn't really add much to the process of understanding retinoscopy. The "optics" explanation of this lecture may not be entirely 100% correct, but this is still the best way I know of explaining this topic.

You're wrong. This video is spot-on. 1.The pencil of light that they are describing is assumed to be the center of the person's focus. Many other peripheral rays are obviously projected to different, peripheral parts of the retina. 2.You are very incorrect. The image projected onto the back of the retina IS inverted - simple, basic, ophthalmic optics. The brain maps the retina upside down, i.e. the inferior retina corresponds to the superior visual field. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK10944
How do you know the subject is not accomodating at the same time. Doesn't this method assume the eye lens is relaxing at all times?
@Krittin05 жыл бұрын
See that pupil? It's dilated by eye drops so it stops the muscles from focusing.

They made a silly mistake that's all. The light beam entering the eye, as portrayed in the video is coming from different angles and they claim that even at different angles, the beam gets focused onto the same point on the retina. What actually happens is that the doctor does his/her best to translate the beam of light over the pupil, so it's always coming in parallel to the optical axis. The retinal image will indeed move with/against the movement of the doctor's scope for an ametropic eye.
