Baja Sur (e.g. East Cape, La Paz) has severe water shortage issues. And water access is highly politicized. Cabo has a large reservoir in the mountain so ostensibly can be less of an issue. You will never get a permit for your own well. You will either be on city water or have a storage tank filled by a delivery truck periodically. Also the feral dogs are all over the place in Mexico or at least every where I been in Baja (Norte and Sur). Never try to walk around outside at night as the dogs roam free and will go crazy. I tried to take a walk and the police rescued me as I was surrounded by aggressive dogs.

When he talks about no crime and he can stroll at night, he is in upscale areas. They admitted that other areas are more sketchy would be more difficult to rent out. So okay if you pay Western prices to live among other expats or wealthy Mexicans, then you can avoid the way the average Mexican lives. But the upscale areas of Cabo is a small microcosm and is not representative of the entire Baja peninsula in general. I parked my SUV in the Walmart parking lot in Ensenada in July 2021 and they shattered the window to get a small purse I had in the rear seat. Generally I feel mostly safe, but the feral dogs are significant issue in much of Mexico.

I bought a half duplex because of the video using Glen & Tracy. There are price ranges for everyone and I love the beach & desert combo. Don't knock it till you travel here.

Cabo is remote so basic goods are expensive, everything is shipped a long ways This my sixth winter here and groceries are way more than Canada

Go for the English-speaking Philippines or Costa Rica instead. Better in many ways and much less lonely. Baja is maybe good for introverts or couples who like to go out to eat but more or less keep to themselves. Or if you hangout where other expats do, which is not my preference. Maybe if you learn to speak Spanish it will be different. The lowest cost English speaking country has to be Philippines, other than maybe India but India is not a nice place to live. And the SRRV visa only requires either a retirement stipend or $10 - 20k deposit (which can be applied to your condo purchase or house construction). There are loopholes for residency in Mexico, but Mexico is several times more expensive in terms of rent or home purchase for example. Also the benefit of a green, tropical country versus a barren desert in Baja and northern Mexico with water shortage issues. Tropical Mexico is not a safe area generally speaking, especially if driving down (you can read the horror stories online). Overall law & order is much better in SE Asia than Latin America, although crime is not too bad in most of Baja (although again you can read about many home invasions of expats on Mexico Daily).

Temporary residents can but permanent residents can not drive a foreign plated vehicle to the Mexican mainland (TIP permits not allowed). All of Baja is a freezone, so no such restrictions.

As I am looking at various expat destinations, I have to ask myself - if everywhere you want to buy a condo or house is 300k+ - including the USA - what is the point of selling all of your stuff in the USA, and picking yourself up and moving to Cabo or anywhere else where the cost of admission is the same as most locales in the USA? I get that some expat advertised destinations come with 'views' or 'sun', which I guess is targeted at former California residents who think that $300-400k is a cheap house or condo. But for the average retiree from average America, a $300k condo 'somewhere else' is the same as a $300-400k condo in Miami. There just seems to be a whole lot of advertising/marketing of destinations that are over priced and not a sensible destination for an expat retiree. Having said that, this video is extremely helpful. I am learning a lot, but I am discouraged at the realization that retirement has become too expensive everywhere - in just a few short years!

President AMLO has made a commitment to the people of Mexico, promising that by the end of his administration, which is expected to conclude next year, the public Social Security services in the country will rank among the best in the world. We hope that progress is being made towards achieving this goal, and that the efforts to enhance the social security system are proving successful.

Its not that easy. Do you think you are the only foreigners moving to mexico to get "a cheaper life"? You "expats" are duplicating the prices if not more IN ALL THE COUNTRY, even for natives. If you cant rebel against chinesse and nyc landlords who make unafordable living in your own country dont f*ck up other nations with the same method
