What an exceptional family, they are so emotionally stable and agreeable, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it. Decluttering can push people to a very emotionally pressured place but these guys, just like Colin and Christine, are just so incredibly well adjusted. If this was my family there would have been tears and tantrums within the first 20 minutes. I am in awe of this family.

This thought crossed my mind. So many folks with obvious MH health challenges on view... It's absolutely amazing to see such kind, hilarious, loving, intelligent, and STEADY human beings. Christine, Collin, Mary & Jack: your mere existence and lovinkindness are the salve so many are longing for. And when I think about it, frankly, all of your clients are so very lovely, sweet, smart and interesting. April, you are just a MAGNET for magnificent souls. Thank you!! P.S. Jackson & Izzy are pretty darn swell, and so 😎 😎 😎 I know you all know that you three are blessed to have each other... It's wonderful... It's marvelous to witness you special beings, living life together. ❤❤❤

I don’t think this couple are hoarders it’s just an accumulation of things overs years. They are moving to a smaller place so it’s essential to do this. I helped my sister unpack when they downsized. She did a cull before moving but it was amazing how much more she got rid of as we unpacked. It was 50 + years of stuff in a large house so ample storage and you just don’t notice.

I feel the cleaning supplies can be donated, just put a facebook post and someone will collect right away! Can be a huge relief on a family with budget issues during this hectic season or someone trying to help others make a new start. A lot of people in depression rn and those who do volunteer work. Better to use them up than trash
@jananneshipley36873 күн бұрын
Absolutely this! Came here to say the same thing. I just hate seeing useful things tossed into our overcrowded landfills. The buy nothing groups on facebook are great for things like this, as is donating to homeless shelters, animal shelters and pet rescues. They are always in need of cleaning supplies and it is expensive. The pet meds and other pet items can also be donated to shelters and rescues. There is no reason to waste so much stuff when it's easy to donate it. If you don't want to take it somewhere, post on a buy nothing group and let someone pick it up off your porch. They will be appreciative for it.

I like the series about older people a lot more, because it's not an accumulation out of consumerism but out of living. They are things that you accumulate over the years just in case, gifts, out of experiences, and that I find harder to get rid of. And this is a lovely couple.

Lovely folks! I tackled a cupboard that has been causing me stress for MONTHS. 30 min later, I had a small bin of useful disposable dishes, had moved a good stack of reusable party decor to our party decor bin, emptied one entire medium bin, corralled all the paint tools I'll be using this week, and found the drill battery I'd been looking for. And tossed a whole bag of trash. No longer a doom cupboard, and it's going to be so much easier to maintain. We have a three generation household, and going through the same processes with the little fellows will set them up for success now and later in life as well. Love getting down to what is useful and lovely!!

I love the honesty when she admits to not like cleaning. Sometimes after a declutter like this is becomes a great time to think about hiring a house keeper who cokes in once a week or every two weeks to take care of the things you dont want to do. I realize not everyone can afford this but often its not as much as you think and the value it can add to your life to is tremendous! Oh and a robot vacuum! I love a good robot vacuum going over my floors once a day or every second day.

I recently cleared my cleaning cupboard too. I also didn't expect to have five different floor cleaning products and four products to get rid of limescale. It adds up, but since it is still an amount to use it up, I do that. However, I don't know how it is in the US but in Germany I could ask at the animal shelter if they can use some of the cleaning products. I have donated desinfection cleaner to them before. Maybe that would also be an option instead of just bringing it to the dump.
@fabigrossi29763 күн бұрын
I think, we in Germany are also less "I might need it at some point, but not now, so I just throw it away and buy it again later." We don't do that around here, we'd keep these things and that's the case all over Europe, I think.
@Jasmine-in-my-mind3 күн бұрын
In my city in the U.S., there is a place at the dump where you can drop off cleaning supplies, paint, etc. The city will also pick these things up at the curb for free if you call ahead. They safely dispose of anything that is not usable. For containers that are at least half full, they have a "free store" at the dump where anyone can go and select these gently used products for free. I'm sure there are other cities that do this. This is probably more common in cities than in rural areas.

One thing I found when declutterring a bit of my kitchen was that mentally it was worth the investment in all the same container. The glass lock containers they have are exactly what I use and it is fabulous knowing that if I break a container/lid I have more pieces that match. I was able to get rid of all my other misc “Tupperware” short of the ones I use for entertaining/large meals/or sending people home with leftovers/treats!

Oh man, I can so relate to this....I've been decluttering for more than three years. Started with old business paper work we didn't need any more. Been working on odds and ends of things...Have sorted and categorized bins in my basement that I'm not sure what to do with. I'm also storing things for several different people, but, it is still neat, I keep it that way...My husband passed away in June, so I have been very busy with that closure. I keep thinking garage sale, but, I'm 84 in a few days and not sure I have the stamina for that. What I did do, is have a couple from the church come and look at Christmas bins to take what they thought would work for their bake sale and Christmas table sale. That was fun and I'm hoping I don't get a lot of it back! I have also donated to our local thrift shops...We have no Goodwill here...

I feel your loss. I lost my father this year and little by little I am helping my mother to organize papers, get rid of his clothes and some of his things.
