RETIRED DANCER'S REACTION+REVIEW: RED VELVET "Queendom" M/V!

WTF DOES “OG KPOP STAN" EVEN MEAN?! Supposedly "original gangster”, can be seen as “old generation", personally viewed as “old-school”.🤓
I became an avid Korean music aka Kpop listener/lover since 1998. Korean and rap music were my coping mechanisms from the bullying I experienced in middle school through high school and my love for the genre has stuck by me ever since.
Unfortunately, I took a huge break from Korean music around 2015 when I was officially diagnosed with lupus nephritis and seizures; I was receiving and battling years of chemotherapy and dialysis along with taking 32 pills a day, so I had no mental/emotional/spiritual room to keep myself updated with the genre. Luckily, I'm in remission now! Doesn't mean that lupus and seizures are gone because I am still very capable of frequent flare-ups of I don't take care of myself, but I make sure to do so enough to manage and live as "normally" as possible.
When I made this KZbin name, I was thinking from my graphic-design-major perspective of a brand that will not only describe what my content will be about but will also align with the times, and y’all know that “Kpop stans” have been a thang for awhile now so hence the cringe-worthy title, OG KPOP STAN. (My love for Eminem is also relevant.😂) ALSO! Just to be SUPER clear- me calling myself an "OG kpop stan" does NOT mean that anyone who's listened to kpop after me is inferior or less-than. A kpop lifestyle is a kpop lifestyle regardless of time. Please don’t get that sh*t twisted.😛 Sooo I am currently and actively keeping a weather eye on the KPOP horizon!

What I loved the most in the video is that it was showing how Yeri was like an apprentice and the others were teaching Yeri about magic and levitating things. Finally, in the end we see that Yeri was able to do magic of her own and the others were looking proudly over her. This is such a great parallel to the reality. Yeri was essentially guided and brought up by her members and I feel in this era in particular, she's looking so much more confident, elegant and just different in a good way. She really has grown up well.

OH MY GOODNESS YES YES YES!!! I can't explain how Happy I am during this entire thing I was stopping the Music Video and going back a lot it has been too long but our Queens are BACK! I am so glad that you reacted to this they all did such a Phenomenal Job like always, this was literally everyone's Era and you won't make me think otherwise because Wow just Wow I absolutely loved everything about this! Irene went off on the Rap it was just Wow especially the one near the end it was a Singing kind of Rap and I was here for it also her Vocals both in there and pretty much all of the B - Sides were INSANE I literally mixed her up with Wendy sometimes and don't get me started on her Visuals she is indeed the Original Visual, Seulgi went off her Visuals were CRAZY and I absolutely love her in the Orange hair her Vocals were just Wow and don't get me started when she was in those B - Sides because WOW she went totally Insane and I loved it again just everything was Amazing (Don't get me started on her Dancing), Wendy WENT OFF on the Vocals she was flexing her Vocal Colors and her High and kind of Low notes in every song (and a little spoiler) she also Rapped in one of the Songs and I was here for it they need her to Rap a lot more also don't get me started on her Visuals just Gorgeous I am so happy she is back and she also got much better at dancing just Wow, Joy went Crazy on everything the Dance, Visuals, Vocals, and we got Joy RAPPING again I am so happy to see that because she is such a great Rapper but again her Vocals were Gorgeous and yeah her Visuals were just Wow she is indeed Sexy Dynamite, and Yeri was just What in the World her Vocals are so GOOD she literally has a cotton candy voice her Visuals are just Stunning I don't know what happened to her over the Year or so but Wow and the Rap just WOW she has gotten so much better at Rapping she killed this Concept (To be Honest all of them did!) Again just WOW they all were Insane the Dancing was just Crazy they went off, the Vocals were Wow just Wow them and Mamamoo are Queens of Vocals, their Visuals were just Stunning They all look so Happy back Together and it's just Amazing, the Rapping was just Wow I don't need to say much it was just WOW (Also that JoyRi Moment near the End was just Adorable!) Anyways I can't wait for you to react to more Red Velvet such as More Music Videos, B - Sides, Live Performances, Covers, Dance Practices, Moments, and of course Ships! Couple of things: 1) Loved this M/V and the vibe they wanted to give off after the moody Pyscho (which was also great). 2) I might have missed when this happened but loved the new video angle where it looks like you're watching it straight on and sorry if I didn't notice that before. 3) The double bun hair is super cute. 4) Again this is me missing things but your studio background has grown so much from having 3 group stickers on the side to the giant collection that now distracts me from Baby Yoda (Grogu to avoid trolls).

Hi Thina, Love your reactions! I didn't get a Cinderella vibe, instead, it looks heavily inspired by Alice in Wonderland and Kiki's Delivery Service. In fact I would call it a mashup of those two. The Wonderland vibe is EVERYWHERE, the white cat, Queens in the Red Castle, Wendy's card In the MQGS, Joy literally saying "Wonderland", croquet with flamingos. Kiki's delivery is the witches trainee running a delivery service, Joy has a broom behind her motorcycle, processing packages, etc.

Not sure of the full meaning of the M/V. I did notice at the beginning they called Yeri, a witch in training, at the end of the video, she received a wand, and maybe became a full witch

I see it as like when OT4 debuted and later welcomed Yeri in ICC era, like they guided her as she was young when she debuted. So they took care of her, supported her and stayed with her, similar to how she was being taught how to levitate stuff and other witchly magic in the MV. Then later (close to the end of the MV), she finally had her wand and became a full witch (no more a trainee witch)...so in reality, she has grown up to be a strong woman with their love and support throughout the years they were together. I don't know exactly how to explain myself lol...but that's how I kinda see it.

I feel very split on this song. On the one hand, the lyrics are amateurish and fluffy, and it's basically just a happy pop song. On the other hand, the production is at the end of the day - typical of SME - really well done, even if it's not super interesting, and Red Velvet as performers just elevates everything to a much higher level, because they are insanely talented and charismatic. Asides from the fact that I'm always happy to watch more of Seulgi (not to mention carrot colored Seulgi), this is not a great song in my book. I hope the b-sides make up for it.
