This was the moment I was waiting for! I knew you were going to love Zimzalabim because as an OG you are more aware and accustomed to SMs musical chang up/earworm style so I'm glad to know I was right lol, allow me a rant! This song has such an interesting history, Lee Soo Man (SM founder and pioneer of the Kpop wave or Hallyu wave) has said that this song has been in SM for a while (inspired by SNSD "I got a boy" which is not surprising at all lol) and that he loved the idea of the song but wasn't sure the Group could handle it until 2019 when it came out and he suggested it as their title song, so it really is a culmination of the core principle of what RV is, which is, musical experimentation and growth at its finest. The name as well "Zimzalabim" is a Nordic incantation like Abracadabra or Alakazam, used a lot in children rhymes a long time ago, its an expression of magic which also complements RV well, they pull MAGICAL like no other Kpop group, male or female has ever done. It's the charisma and out-of-this-world harmonies and vocals that have always given RV this quirky, sinister, magical, dream-like essence on every song and album they put out but condensed into one title song. BRILLIANT. The change-ups in the song serve to keep you second-guessing and on your toes both visually with the amusement park-themed but also musically which instruments fading in and out and then coming to the forefront in the last chorus of the song. Lyrically, "Zimzalabim" talks about "breaking convention, reaching for your dreams, and letting a little bit of magic back into your life" which is also incredibly smart because not only is RV giving you a positive and energetic message but they are also saying that THEY are that magic that you need, the magic that kpop gets every time RV has a comeback, the song is polarizing and not everyone will love it or even like it and that's OK, everyone has different tastes and needs different things from music but I hope that luvies at least see the brilliance and courage it takes to go this outside the box, to say "we are an experimental group, let's shoot for the moon" because in a genre like Kpop where recycling songs and styles in very common we have a few handfuls of groups who are breaking from that and RV was one of the first ones to do it successfully. To end my rant, that bridge is one of the best bridges in Kpop (and a lot of those are RV, to be honest) Choreography is FIRE and you should check out the flash mob they did, it's epic! So glad you liked it and that I was able to experience that with you, onto Umpah Umpah! (also if you can check out their Japanese singles, they are bops and quirky as hell)
