This question is so easily answered; $500. USD monthly - A 1 bedroom condo if you look around for a deal is around $300 small all amenities but definitely doable, water $20, electric is $100, internet & phone $50. Everything else on top of that is up to YOUR lifestyle. You choose how to spend the remaining budget

Great episode, Chris! This interview really brings the point home that it is possible to build a lifestyle that is unique and exciting... Live the dream! I've been an expat since 17 pretty much...Europe, the Middle East, and Asia have been my hangouts... Thailand is right at the top of my list of places to retire to (tied with The Philippines)... Positive factors in both places, each has their strengths and weaknesses... End goal after Dubai, where I'm at now? Split my time between the two countries... Likely will continue the business as well, if you love what you're doing it's not a job, it's a way of life that dovetails nicely with the rest of your life... Living the dream too... Cheers! 🙏🙏🙏 👍😎👍

I am a Brit in Bangkok and the one thing this video demonstrates is just how expensive the USA has become. Bangkok is not that cheap for Brits as even with inflation prices are still 30-40% cheaper than the USA. Its still good value especially if you eat Thai food a lot and dont drink wine or go out much. Thats where the sweet spot is IMO. However if you enjoy a nice steak dinner twice a week and go out on a Saturday night be prepared for minimum £3000PCM. A bottle of wine will be £20. A nice bottle £40. Nice western food like Italian or Greek is plentiful but comparable prices to the UK. Fruit, vegetables, cheese, most meat all more expensive than UK - other than maybe chicken. I would say my average weekly shop is around £120 here in Bangkok back home in the UK its around £75-80. Thats for good eating too. I pay not far off £1500PCM for a 60m2 condo incl utilities. I appreciate people pay less, but not everyone can live in a 28m2 studio even if it is £300 a month. So if you have got this far, and you are British, be very careful when you watch videos like this where they quote dollar prices because a £4.99 Aldi sirloin steak in Bangkok is closer to 2x the price. That same £4.99 Aldi steak in the US would be $15 so nearly 3x UK price. This is where people get confused and think its "cheap" but it all depends on what you are comparing it with! Thanks for the video btw another great one.

Living in BKK since many years and astonished about his low food costs. Thats definitely NOT the average expat. Most of my western friends and myself included spend around 500-800 USD/ month just for food. As delicious as Thai food is, if you just go out once a week to eat western food, this sums up pretty quickly.

14 years ago I decided to move back to Thailand when I retired, I had been working and staying in Thailand for 40 years before retiring and knew what to expect when I came back to retire and buy a home. I bought my home from a retired Englishman me being an American the home owner was surprised of my knowledge of Thailand. I learn that the Englishman had retired and came to Thailand 7 years earlier thinking that he would end his days in Thailand but things had changed. First the baht was not going as far has it had when he first arrived in Thailand. Second his British pound was not going as far either and now he could not afford to stay in Thailand anymore. I did notice that he had not been to wise when he first came to Thailand by the lavish living he started off with and now with dwindling savings and the pound hitting the skids he was forced to sell his home and go back to Thailand. Today I see the same thing happening to the U.S. dollar and those American than think they will be able to live on their Social Security and some retirement savings may better start now looking at reducing their expenses. The dollar will be pretty much like the pound and with inflation already happening in Thailand some people are going to be stranded.

There are other expenses (entertainment) very little since most of my friends have gone.

I'm really curious so thought I'd ask this here: What's the likelihood of moving over there from the UK, but as a person who makes a living entirely from stocks / crypto? I think I remember reading somewhere that to live over there you need a stable income of £25,000 a year or more, but with trading, that number is incredibly variable month by month. Also it's not quite as easy as getting a P45 and off you go. I haven't had an "actual job" in 4 years so I'm really not sure where that leaves me, but the UK is horrific and too damn cold and I need out.

You really don't need £25k a year, unless you have a fairly plush lifestyle. £1k a month is doable, if you're sensible in your spending. But if you like fine dining, golf, staying in luxury accommodation, etc etc, you'd need £2k+. Re stocks and crypto etc, you'll have to keep an eye on the new tax laws. That kind of income may be subject to tax from January onwards. It may be enough to dissuade some ppl from retiring in Thailand, if that happens. Nothing is certain yet though. One way of making budgeting much easier - although it may not suit many - is to buy your own place before retiring. That makes your expenditure more predictable, and would allow you to have a couple of very low spending weeks if you need to get your budget back on track.

I live in pattaya on the beach in a luxury condo. It costs me 420$ a month. With all expenses paid, my monthly is 1k. Thats keeping it really simple. But if you want to party all day, get boom boom, booze, then you will be spending much more. But guys who say you cant spend less than 2k to live in thailand have zero money management skills.

Seems like all the budget videos are for people that want to spend the least money possible - anything under $2000 a month get these people excited. Glad I have a much bigger budget - $4000mo gets you everything you want without compromising 😊😊😊😊 Except my Thai Porsche costs 3x what it does back in USA 😂 but I meet the biggest movers and shakers in Thailand on my group drives which pays HUGE perks HUGE.

senior discount on BTS is not available for foreigners. a long time ago, foreigners could get the senior pass for BTS but from what I read, there came all these protests from the locals. so, it was stopped. same thing happened with the city line pass. but the MRT senior pass is still available.
