@@RetiredWorkingForYou Oh My Gosh! I will def be watching for that! I have friends there who are struggling. I pray for them each and every day. Chiang Mai sort of gets lost in terms of tourism because it's not a cool 'beach vibe' travel spot. So folks aren't aware of how decimated their economy is, same as the beaches just a little different.

I spent a few days in Chiang Mai in 2019 and loved it, so many beautiful temples there and many ethical elephant sanctuaries too. When you mentioned Doi Suthep I thought to myself that you're not going there by Samlor (it's quite the hill leading there). You should definitely visit Doi Inthanon national park whilst you're there to find the coolest temperature in Thailand at the top of the highest point in the country.

I am native Thai now living in Chiang Mai for 30 years. I would like to say big thanks for the Chiang Mai content to you. One thing I think it's funny foreign tourists love Bangkok but almost all Thai tourists love Chiangmai. The cost of living here is also more Cheaper than in Bangkok. Thank you for your great video.

My earliest memory of being in Thailand as a kid, was riding a Sam Lo with my cousin. I remember we drove thru the night and I was scared falling off haha but it was so much fun that I still remember it till now, even tho i was just 4 years old at that time. Actually having teary eyes knowing they wont be there for too long anymore. In Pak Thong CHai, my mums hometown, Sam Los are also still rolling too :)
Great history lesson. I've been in Chiang Mai for a little over 4 years and I learned a lot. Cheers

I love the history content! It’s super interesting. Keep them coming Chris! But I am very glad the cyclo industry is dying in Thailand. It’s been that way as well in Vietnam. I’ve spoken cyclo drivers several times during my many visits to Vietnam in the last 25 years. And to me, this means better opportunities exists elsewhere for the new Thai generation (and Vietnamese). No one grows up saying they want to be a cyclo driver! Its hard, arduous work for inconsistent income. It’s not like passing down farming, cooking or creating art by hand to preserve worthwhile traditions that truly benefits the culture. This mostly benefits the tourists. Most cyclo drivers do this not because they like it but because they don’t see better alternatives for themselves. And our enjoyment of this experience (not dissimilar to riding an elephant) is one I’m happy to let go as it probably means better options for them. Unlike riding an elephant, I would still happily pay a cyclo driver if I’m fortunate to visit Thailand as a tourist but I would also be very happy if it’s not there too.

These type of bike transports are popular in tourist hot spots in California, like Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco and the Gaslight district in San Diego, operated by young people. I worry that I'm too heavy for these older Thai men, but if I see them, I'll take them when I'm in Chiang Mai (February & March).
