Italy has more beautifull cities and villages but the colors are quite depressed. Greece has better landscape and beaches. Also has the islands. Greece has relaxing life and better and healthier food. And the colors!!! This white and blue and this natural light!!

I've been to both countries. I would give Greece the slight edge based on the better food and English is a little more common. I studied both Greek and Italian before visiting each country. Italian was a little easier to pick up. But I didn't really reach a conversational level of either. Greece did feel a little more relaxing which is a huge plus for me.

Great video! I visited Greece and Italy last year, and the vibe is so different but amazing in both places. Greece felt more relaxed, while Italy’s charm was in the little cafes. This really makes me think about where I’d retire someday!

Both countries have advantages, and disadvantages. Italy is dearer country, but better developed. Italy is well connected to Europe with railways, and buses. There are much nicer, more interesting cities in Italy, probably there are the nicest cities and towns in the World. People are friendly, generally. Greeks are the friendliest people in the World, even friendlier than Italians. (Romans are very rude...)in my oppinion. Prices are lover in Greace. Cities are not that nice in Greece, lots of contret building, because of eartquake danger. The Italian country hoses are much cheaper and nicer buildings. I would avoid very cheap areas, beacuse of earthquake danger. Everyday life is better in Greece, if you like socializing, the nighlife is in Greece one of the best in the World. The nighlife in Thessaloniki is on the top. The food is also better in greece, altough less variety; Italians eat too much carbohydrates. The weather is similar, but there are differences: Italy has maritime climate, so it is rain a lot in the northern part of the country. Greece is very arid, and very windy, which can be an advantage in the summer. The summer is getting unbearable in both countries. Up north can be chilly in both countries in the winter. Where should I move? If warmer winter is important, Crete, or Sicily can be good choice. if you are looking for very lively cities, and excitements, try Bologna or Thessaloniki, or Athens

Good compare and contrast. France has a great tax regime for US retirees (retirement income is taxed in US but not France), so for that group it might be worthwhile to investigate.

This comparison between Greece and Italy is exactly what I’ve been looking for as I explore retirement options in Europe! Both countries have a lot to offer, but I still have some questions. How do their healthcare systems compare in terms of access and quality for retirees? And when it comes to the cost of living, what are the specific differences in housing and taxes? I’d also like to know more about residency requirements and any potential bureaucratic hurdles. Any additional insights on these would really help me make a more informed decision!

Having lived in both Bari and Thessaloniki, I can't decide which I like more. I adore both of them. There are certain similarities in the way of living. What I like about both, is that both of them are University cities with the Universities in the center of the city. That makes them youthful, cheerful, and lively. They are close to great beaches. Thessaloniki has also the advantage of being close to the borders to the Balkans and to Turkey. In no time we can travel there and in central Europe. I think that the food is better in Thessaloniki, as it is a more cosmopolitan city with influences from the East and the West, and after all it is a UNESCO creative city of gastronomy. Barri fulfills all the stereotypes about Southern Italy. For me it would be ideal to split my time in both cities, if I could afford it. In the meantime, I retired in Athens.🤓

I moved from Davao City to Cagayan De Oro and I love it here. My Condo fully furnished runs me 200 USD a month. The weather is fantastic we just started the rainy season and the cool breeze that blows in from the ocean is refreshing, the night life is amazing, very modern malls and restaurants the people are so friendly.

The big advantage italy has is housing. Real estate isnt just more expensive in greece the real estate market is broken and you cant even find what is for sale as there is no central listing registry. Its all for sale by owner and all realtors refuse to show properties unless they are listing.

As an expat: Italy, best country in the world to visit. Greece, best country in the world to retire (provided you make above average income)

Both are great but the edge goes to Italy because of the better food and of course the culture and I find that traveling is easier.

I love Greece. The island of Crete is the place for me to say bye bye Hawaii, Hello Crete. Italy wasn't really welcoming anywhere in the country.

Greece is less expensive on all measures than Italy. Anything that is slightly more than bare survival would be charged as luxury in Italy. Example: sunbeads in Italy go for 30-50 euros, in Greece free with a drink to 5-10. Electricity, pharmaceutics is extremely expensive in Italy as well among the most expensive in the EU. You compare Thessaloniki, the second largest city with like 50th largest city, in the south of Italy..
