Great photos Alex, as always. Could you give feedback about the strobe recharge time, and what power settings you mostly use?

Shoot wide angle between 25-50% power mostly. And macro between 6-25%. At these powers you can shoot several frames before there is any recycling time delay between shots. So it is not something I notice. The battery chargers I use, recharge the sets in about and hour or two.

Asking for a friend 😂 As retra’s seem to be peoples go to for strobes at the moment. If they weren’t available what else would you recommend? At roughly £1350 each plus accessories they are probably the pinnacle of strobes at present price wise.

Power output on the led is the same as on previous generation. However the angle of coverage is slightly wider than before which means a more evenly distributed pilot light when using the LSD snoot with larger masks.

Excellent review Alex. I might be ready to replace my Inons. I really like the back led and can see how that would be helpful at night. Does the power setting knob stop at min/max settings or does it continuously turn?

The power settings knob stops at maximum (100%) and also at the minimum end.

Hi Alex, Thank you very much for the excellent informative video. My question is, have you used RETRA E-Opto Convertor to shoot with electrical cable or you only use the fiber optic cables with this strobe??

The E-Opto converter triggers the flashes very reliably. However, I find them quite awkward to use because they are hard to keep in place in the real world with the electronic synch cable pulling on them. Retra, in the past, talked about making one that screwed directly onto the trigger sensor on the flash, which would be much neater. This new flash has a metal thread on this attachment which should be plenty strong enough for such a solution. I’d ask Retra about it.

The E-Opto converter screws directly onto the strobe with the new and previous generation strobes. This means no fibre optic cable between the E-Opto converter and Retra Flash.

A couple of points on batteries. Things I like about AA is their universal, buy or borrow anywhere nature. Also when batteries age they are easily and cheaply replaced. Loading and charging multiple batteries takes more time than battery packs, but this is a between dive activity and really isn’t impacting on your photography performance.
