Retractable conveyor

All the belt rollers are driven by the motor.
Thanks to the green actuator the yellow frame can slide along the runways made on the conveyor base.
Such movement allows the conveyor to retract or to extend.
There are two red screws for tensioning the belt.
In this design the belt is not slack during retracting or extending process because all the belt branches are arranged parallel to each other. If not, an automatic belt tensioner is required.

I used to work in the packaging area of a frozen food plant often monitoring for the rejects this type of belt would spit out. I loved watching this assembly in action. Not much else to do watching for rejected product.

I’ve actually installed this design on some paper processing equipment. Belt tracking was a problem at high speeds due to lack of rigidity , but it was very useful for getting the belts very close to the roller units . No in/ out movement in normal running , just for roller unit size change .

it depends on the extending speed. It's possible if the speed is large enough.

Yes. There will be differential motion of the two drums, the speed of rotation depending upon the speed of extension/retraction & surface speed of the belt. That is why, they can't be powered ones.
