10 Out 10 for perseverance me old mucker, well done on the retrieval. Now the hard bit, can it be saved ! good luck mate I have everything crossed for you. Believe it or not electrics aren't so fragile as they once were, and I know of a drone taking a dunk for a day spending a week in silicone granule bag, and once completely dried, and new battery was all it needed and away it went. Seeing the title of this video pop up put a smile on my face that you'd retrieved it 😊 As you started paddling out I expected to hear the Mission Impossible theme tune! Lovely footage on the SD card though. Bittersweet that it's kaput, hopefully you can get it fixed.

Full marks for persistence and energy in inflating that dingy! Pity the drone doesn't include an emergency beacon triggered by emersion in water. I'm unimpressed by the battery failure. Best of luck getting the unit repaired!

Well Sandy, you at least have a good news/bad news situation here. Of course the good news is that you are now much closer to the possibility of having a drone than you were before, and you have retrieved your SD card, and the only bad news is that you aren't quite there yet. Overall, a pretty decent outcome I would say. I think that you will probably have the situation in order fairly soon. I am relieved and happy for you. Congratulations! Been there done that Sandy - on only my second flight!! Had to go back to the river with goggles and go for a swim. Mine was dead too - cheapest way I found to replace was to buy a bare used unit from eBay.

@@WiltshireMan don’t forget that you broken drone will still be worth a fair amount when broken down for parts. The gimble, motors, arms and body are often damaged in a crash.

Excellent news. It should be fixable after a good flush through. If it doesn’t come back to life there is a company in the UK that are DJI approved who could fix it. It’s a pain having to send them abroad.

Ken I sent the drone off to Doctor drone but they couldn't fix it and sent it back without charging me anything which was kind, they suggested I buy a new drone on one of the auction sites, but |I thought I'd give Heliguy a call and they said they could forward the drone to DJI in Holland and they would issue me with a brand new replacement but as it was not insured I'd have to pay around £250, so I thought that was reasonable and have done that. Waiting now for it to arrive!

Im Guessing it was the Muddy Silt that Killed it. Another YTer Frenchies Motorhome think it is , he lost his in a Small part of a River, but couldnt go back till a longer Period than yours. Found his also but water was alot Clearer. You must have had a good Mental Note for the Location?. If you boil a full kettle of Water and allow to cool then Strain it out ..its the same as the water you bought..Old Mechanics Trick to bring back Car Batteries that had a dry Ceĺl or two 👍 Glad you got it back Sandy, Fingers crossed its Repairable at a Reasonable Price

Well spotted, nice recovery, most would have given up and not bothered finding it in that muddy lake. You'll be surprised how resilient these drones are after being under water. As long as you take a bit of time and care to rinse it in clean water and completely dry it, you should be fine. If not DJI will send you a completely refurbished unit if you send that back for repair. Hope it works out for you? 👍

Hopefully it can be repaired. I had a similar incident with a digital SLR camera, which ended up being submerged in a river. Luckily I claimed on my home insurance policy and got it replaced. However, the insurance company didn’t want the damaged camera so I sent it off, along with the lens, to be cleaned/repaired. It was a success and the camera was good again 👍

Hi Sandy Glad you managed to retrieve your drone but sad to see it's not working. I actually thought it was going to burst into life when you tried switching it on. I did something similar to my drone in Scotland. I have the DJI Mavic mini. I tried to fly it under a bridge where a river ran through but it suddenly became unresponsive and started rising and ended up bouncing off the ceiling of the bridge several times and then started to land. I tried to take control of the drone but it landed in the river and sank to the bottom. I ran into the river which was waist high to retrieve it and found it 2 minutes later. I immediately removed the battery and placed the drone on the dash of my car and blasted the heaters on it for an hour to dry it out. When I got home I placed it above a radiator for a couple of days. I checked the battery and it was fine and even charged ....I then switched the drone on and low and behold........she burst into life and flew with no altercations. I guess retrieving it so quickly helped minimise the damage that could have happened and the fact that the river was crystal clear with a rocky bed and no mud. I really hope you get it fixed Sandy........love your scenic drone footage. Take care.....Mick

You was very lucky there Mick, I think getting it out and dry as fast as possible is what saved your drone, my drone was submerged for 2 days. Sent it off this morning to Dr Drone so hopefully they can repair it, I'll post a video about what happens when I know more

I hoped you might try and retrieve the drone Sandy. I wonder what causes electronics to pack up in water? Not sure how conductive it is to short things out. Only other issue I suppose is physical damage to components like capacitors, connectors, switches and camera. Perhaps a small float and roll of very light duty fishing twine, with float attached to drone with water soluble glue would be a handy accessory? Glad the battery is not going to put anything nasty into the pond. Good luck with repair.

there's plenty of free space within the drone for a buoyancy aid but I guess they need that space to allow for air flow to keep components cool but a good comment and perhaps something like a small piece of polystyrene could be glued somewhere to keep it afloat, as it is it sinks like a brick

After a bath in IPA, you may need to check any lubes in the motors/gimble. (Or mention to the repair place to do so.)
