Great review, @RetroActive if I have a Trinitron CRT, a Will, and the HD Retrovision cables, Do you think that I need this cables? thanks.
@retroactivekev2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'd just stick with your Wii and HD Retrovision cables if you're just concerned about Gamecube games; it is a great option.

I'm really hoping these are good, I have a CRT and I want to use component video on my GameCube.

I think for a CRT you'll be golden.

@@retroactivekev I was actually pretty pleased with your example of the HD retrovision cables for Wii. I had always heard that GameCube output on Wii wasn't very good but I'm not sure how people reached that conclusion. With the fact that it will also clean up my Wii output is also a great bonus!

oh yeah anything outputting thru that digital port should look nice and crisp, i have a official Dteriminal that i have converted to component, i was worried the wires on the adapter would be too thin but they are great and look amazing no unwanted noise or off colors, if i didnt have them i would probably shoot for these, Svideo should also give you a surprisingly similar result if you are not worried about 480p

Question, I have a Pal Gamecube and am torn between 2 options. These cables or the HD Retrovision Component. Since the Pal Gamecube can output RGB. Would I notice a difference between these options? Thank you in advance

This might be to late but the darker image is what the oem component cables give as well (GameCube uses yuv color pallet not rgb

How do these compare to kaico brand GC component cables?
@retroactivekev2 жыл бұрын
I have never tried them, but I would assume better. Kaico doesn’t have a great reputation for quality and they have been accused of stealing designs so I’ve never bothered with them.

I run the retrobit prism hdmi adapter in conjunction with an mclassic for upscaling to my 1440p monitor and have been super happy with the results for games that have 480p support. The only issue is that the line doubler on the gcvideo mod products doesn’t do as good of a job as the Retrotink 5x motion adaptive deinterlacer. It’s hard to go back to a standard line doubler after seeing that magic from the Retrotink
@retroactivekev2 жыл бұрын
Not a bad solution! I do agree it is hard to go back to other line doublers/scalers, the Tink5x Pro is king right now.

Have you ever run the Carby with an MClassic or MCable attatched to the back of it? Scales the Carby to 1080P and really cleans up the jaggies. The only thing I don't like about the Carby is when it switches resolution like when you crash in Rogue Leader, the screen goes black for a few seconds. I also have the Retrobit cables into the RT5x, and it does look really good. But in my experience, the Carby+Mclassic is best. However that is another 100 dollar piece of tech. But if you already have it, might as well use it. Great review of the prism cables!

I haven't tried that. I'm not a big fan of the smoothing those kind of things do so just haven't wanted to spend the money. But it is certainly a fine way to go!

I accidentally bought myself a GameCube capable of Digital AV out after it came included with an Intec screen that I purchased just for the laughs, it’s about time to retire my beat up old one (which only had the Analog) and I’ve been already plugging the AV ports into the Component with my plasma. These cables sound like a favorable alternative compared to the hard to import first party ones, I’ll surely buy into these for the same price as a good quality one for the original Xbox.

Damn that darker picture is a deal breaker for me... I've almost always had issues with Retrobit in the past so I shouldn't be surprised. I know some other component GameCube cables are in the works so I guess I'll stick to S-Video for now. Ugh.

Understandable! I don't find it too drastic but it is what it is.

Super Nintendo has component out ?
@retroactivekev2 жыл бұрын
Yep, You can grab any RGB cable of course (like SCART) but I definitely suggest the component cables from HD Retrovision.
@ShougHell2 жыл бұрын
No, it doesn't, the component cables for SNES just convert an RGB signal (which the port actually DOES support) to YPbPr, and the port doesn't natively support YPbPr.
@retroactivekev2 жыл бұрын
@@ShougHell To be fair I did misspeak a bit since it is RGB out and not just it’s cousin component. A pretty standard conversion. But especially these days if you’re not using a SCART cable for your SNES RGB you are probably going with component.

You should probably pin a comment or something indicating that you no longer recommend these cables. I bought them based on your recommendation in this video without seeing that you have a newer video recommending against them.
@retroactivekev2 жыл бұрын
You make a fair point, and I just did that. I honestly thought I already had. As I mentioned in that follow-up and plenty of times in the comments, they aren't necessarily a poor option if they work for you. The fact that they sold everyone something that already existed with those same issues irks me more than anything. I still use mine because there is no other strictly cable-only option, and I haven't wanted to buy an HDMI-to-component adapter to keep my Gamecube hooked to my RT5X. If they end up having any issues, return them immediately and let the seller and/or Retro-Bit know why. Sorry for any problems and disappointment you have with them.
