first of all thank you erik for your videos, they are somehow touching (maybe it's the pictures, the music, or the melancholy, or all mixed together). i bought the konica minolta 5D SLR (it's still a fine camera) and i could'nt believe it back in 2005/6 when i read that konica minolta sold its camera branch. i find today manufactures try to invent something new every time but the new features aren't needed most of the time. maybe the sense for the details of the products and their basic function like taking photos is gone.

Thanks for the nice comment! I'm glad the video resonates with you. I believe the autumn season inspires melancholic strokes in the editing and compositions. 😁 You should cherish your 5D - it's a unique DSLR from the "Konica Minolta window". Regarding the innovations of today...yeah I get what you mean, like mostly software updates, two more megapixels, better video capability or other things not really involving the actual photo-taking experience.

Beautiful CCD colours! I have the Konica Minolta Dimage Z20. 5mp. It looks like a Star Wars ship. I miss when camera companies took risks and tried different looks, Some worked others did not. But I am happy I am able to get some of these hidden gems. Thanks for sharing!

Ah the Z20 - it looks hilarious. 😄 Seems to have a nice grip. Appreciate the appreciation!

@@ccderik What is really odd is it has a mechanical shutter that blocks off the LCD screen when you use the ev. There is a amazing satisfying clump when it opens and shuts. it is even behind a glass protection. the CCD is great on it too and I love the handling!

@@thissidetowardscreen4553 That's a unique quirk, hehe. Clearly the satisfying clump sound adds to the tactile experience of using it! Will keep my eyes open for the Z20 from now on. 😁

Hi Erik, would you recommend to get a leica digilux 1? I bought a canon powershot s80 after watching your video and I'm very happy with my purchase, so now I trust you more than anyone on this platform 😁

Hello there! Very good choice with the S80 - truly a gem and the last of its kind in that Powershot S-series. It means a lot that you trust my recommendations. 😁 You know what? I recently got the Digilux 1! I haven't tested it yet, so I can't recommend it...yet. However, it’s a Leica, has a unique and classic look, and should have some special rendering of images, so the odds are on its side, hehe.

@@ccderik yes the s80 takes lovely images and I love cloudy white balance with exposure -2/3, sooc pictures already look really good for my purposes. Congrats on your new camera, I hope you'll have fun shooting with it! I'm very curious about color science on digilux 1 compared to s80, I've seen photos with very bright red and blue sky have teal hues, would love to hear your feedback and impressions 😁

@marinanguyen5055 Seems like a setting for that extra retro vibe, giving a bit of a warmer tone too. 😎 I will see if I will make a winter or summer episode of the Digilux, if the latter case then it will be a while (but worthwhile). Very late autumn grey here at the moment...

We are of course missing CCD sensors which were crafted to give the very best digital images mimicking film as closely as was humanly possible.

Distinctively put! Who would've known that the CCD sensor would gain such a passionate fanbase?

So, what we are missing is... those brands that worked hard to earn a place in the market. A market that has changed forever in which the companies are not planning to invest in product development anymore. One famous airplane brand CEO once said "We must stop being an engineering firm and begin to be a business company" or something along those lines. The engineering was let down and the trending has taken it´s place here in the present.

Very good point! I guess the emergence of the smartphone really killed a lot of innovation in the camera market. With that shift, the focus moved to ease of use, megapixels, and various software goodies, often at the expense of quality and craftsmanship than once defined many brands. Of course, consumer demands have changed but it is sad to see that innovation in traditional cameras has taken a backseat [adds melancholic autumn ambience].
