Yesterday at my local retro game store, they had a CIB copy of Super Spike V'Ball for the NES. The original price tag was still on the box at $61.71. I bought it for $35. The box is absolutely beautiful, so I'm very happy to have found it. So, I guess it depends on what was special to you growing up - and the current demand for it.

These videos always make me feel good about collecting. That whole bit about curiosity vs condemnation really hit home. At the end of the day collecting is all about making yourself happy, and surrounding yourself with the things that directly make you happy. With video games ive always felt that its a kind of collection i can share too. When friends and family come over we can browse the library, pick a random game off the shelf and engage with the collection, creating new and exciting memories in the process. Great question! All of them are great - even the latest. I’d actually probably get the newest one. The feature set is great, and it plays wonderfully on PS5. The Switch version is an obvious technical downgrade.

Those Dark Horse Comics Zelda books are really nice. The gold cartridge aesthetic even has the perfect rough texture plastic on the back. It also comes with an oversized manual on "how to read" the book. 😂If you are a fan of the NES Zslda gold cart then this is a must own IMO.

I love the Max Payne games, but the adaptive difficulty is a massive pain in the ass. It starts off waaaay too easy, and then suddenly ramps up and gets insanely difficult at the most inopportune of times. The lack of a consistent difficulty mode at the start is frustrating.

I also got into atari 2600 with yars revenge this year. Got 50 carts super cheap, Its odd as I've never collected it before but I find the catalog very familiar since its mostly arcade ports. Berzerk is my favorite. I like how mort is always a propionate of Purposeful collecting. Seek it if you want to play it, display it, love it.

I am from the third console generation of games when games cost $80. So, I have paid that much in the Nintendo Entertainment System/Sega/SNES generation 3 and 4 eras. Since then, not often have I spent $75 on a game. Final Fantasy 13-2 special edition + special edition strategy guide. Final Fantasy 13 + Special Edition Strategy guide. Those are two exceptions to that rule I purchased in the Xbox 360 era which is the 7th generation. Also referred to as the sweet spot for graphics + gameplay. In the last 5 years the most expensive item was Devil Survivor 1 Overclocked for the Nintendo 3DS in box with the manual in mint condition for $65.

@CrawlingPanther Maybe it was the area you live in. I am 40 years old from Illinois. I bought most of my games from Iowa. I recall games selling for around $80 retail. Recycled Sounds a used game/CD stores charged anywhere from $15 to $35. Maybe a little higher for the most expensive game in stock. Course, that memory is from the point when Sega/Super Nintendo/PlayStation 1 were all relevant at that point. Likely around 96 to 98 I am thinking of. Video Games etc. were higher since they were corporate.

Why do you be little us continually or position yourself with those like pixel plus etc? Look, listen carefully. We are just the ones who played these games when we were 5 to adults. We are the ones who genuinely like the games and aren't looking to buy to make money. I truly hope you can deeply think of these ideas and help distance yourself from going a long with those guys who are basically using gamers, "fans" for self gain. Takes a strong person to go against the grain. Does it truly feel right? People get accustomed to it I suppose but it's still not cool. For what it's worth, my reply to you was genuine as well - I hope you truly find something awesome. I've spent a great deal of energy all year long on the channel attempting to explore this subject - what is the mind of a collector? I have a few conclusions: - No one is buying games, we are buying feelings (nostalgia) - Game prices will remain as high as buyers are willing to spend money on them. If they are to drop, it is because demand has to decrease. - I have no problem with reselling, I have problems with dishonesty. On my WhatNot streams (like last nights) games regularly go for 50% their value. Everyone gets to resell whatever way they choose. We may be a bit far off on our feelings on the matter, but I appreciate your response and comments and wish you well.
