I just picked up the OGRE miniatures Battle Box and Gen Con and it really is glorious to behold these minis after only playing with the little pocket edition for a few years.

I also highly recommend getting the OGRE Miniatures (2nd edition) rulebook. While I prefer the hex-based system, the miniatures rules do have a few interesting twists to them. Regretfully, only the PDF version is currently available. I'm old-school and prefer print.

Good memories. Intruder, Star Fleet Battles 1 2 3, G.E.V., Car Wars, Illuminati, ... so many pocket games.

Goodness, yes! The late 70s through early 80s were fantastic. I remember the first time they combined the early pocket editions of SFB into the first boxed game with the Bellflower cover.

There was also a GEV expansion named Shockwave. It included marines and larger nukes.

This was a really neat asymmetric strategy games. You'd get a bunch of points to buy an army with depending on which OGRE you faced. A smaller ogre faced a smaller defending army, with less of a grind before you had a victor.

In the version we have, I've worked out a strategy to reliably win as the defenders because of how powerful the howitzers are!

Felt like the GEV and mobile howitzer came out in the GEV expansion.

The GEV was in the original Ogre game, GEV(the Game) added the light GEV, Mobile How and more.

There was a bunch of stuff alongside the boardgame. SJG made a GURPS OGRE roleplaying game. I think there might have been novels and short fiction.

can't imagine it being any other way. in one of the earlier bolo stories they are even called ogres.

Played that edition, played the follow up edition with my friend many times. Played the new computer version, but thought it too buggy. The digital version's been fixed, but I've lost interest. I just want my real family the girl I fell for.

Um, no. OGRE is not like Terminator. The AI's not rogue. OGREs were built by the North American Combine as a super-tank.

True, While not "kill all humans" skynet crazy during the Factory Wars period some Self aware Ogres went rogue.

It's a world where tactical nukes are already part of the battlefield. This thing can roll out of the sea or from a river and start rumbling towards a town.
