Retro Handheld Extravaganza! - Wonderswan Color & Crystal

I'm a new convert to the WonderSwan. Only have the monochrome version so far, though. I don't know if you are aware but the Color model has an issue with the conductive pad on the power button wearing out through use. This can be fixed by replacing the pad or using conductive paint (or a bit of foil maybe). That's probably what's wrong with your broken one.

Just picked up a black and white Wonderswan at Play Expo as an impulse buy. Thanks for the game tips Elliot. I've ordered Gunpey, but Klonoa is proving to be VERY pricey! Still can't believe I'm getting 30 hours battery life from ONE AA battery. That's insane! Clearly Gunpei Yokoi learned a lot from working on the Game Boy Pocket when designing the original Wonderswan.

Klonoa is great! It's nice to see people appreciating it. The Wonderswan is such a neat system, it is too bad that all those unique games never seem to get a re-release! Square did a bunch of updated games and a few games ONLY on the Wonderswan, and Bandai had a ton of anime licensed stuff that would be so fun to try out in English.

@The Retro Future - Just thought I'd add that you can buy backlit LCDs for Wonderswan Color on AliExpress for about £40, and there's a flashcard available, but I can't remember the name. Been a while since I owned one :)

Nice video :) I have a question, do you know where to find Wonderswan (not color nor crystal)replacements? I bought one a week ago and received it today. It lacks one button and I can’t find any replacements. On the other hand, It plays no sound and I was wondering if it is supposed to play anything if there’s no game inserted since I have none yet. Hi good video :), the wonderswan I heard may have been almost released in the US by Matel but it fell through. Btw klonoa is cat i think, if anyone wants to try his games I highly recommend them just dont start with the swan as its 40 usd for moonlight musuem last I checked. I suggest the psn ps1 version or the wii remake to start, both great. His gba titles are also fun too and super cheap or on wii u VC. The gba titles play in the same style as moonlight museum.

If the games don't have kanji is easier to read if you know katakana and hiragana.

It wasn't released around the time of the Game Boy Pocket. It competed with the Game Boy Advance. Around 2001-2002.

SSJraditz Black I think they were still manufacturing Pockets around the time the original WonderSwan came out though. There's always a fair bit of overlap with console generations (especially handhelds). So it competed with three GB models during its life.
