Joysticks look nice, and I do like the first one, but... I would still suggest a gamepad with more than 2 buttons (or joystick is that happens). HoH uses them all, and, every Rusty Pixels game will look for a START button and use it, ie. for pause during play. This is why the 8BitDo pads are so handy for the Next. These are perfect for the standard Spectrum games though.

Love the custom joystick - I’ve tried the brilliant Steve creations on both the ZX Spectrum Next and USB ones on the A500 Mini. I can see them also being rather great on the upcoming ‘TheSpectrum’. Great video - thank you.

Interesting and useful video. They all look like good joysticks, however I've got to say the Steve Elme stick looks the best and possibly the nicest to use 👍🕹

Great video mate. One thing missing is three button joysticks for the Next. A few games out there use them.

or 6 buttons, i can think of one that uses them :)

@theflashmanuk I want to make my own. I'm OK at building stuff but can't design the circuit I'd need.

Great video. I’ve just ordered one of those sticks from Steve. I have a next arriving soon (purchased from eBay) - quick question before it arrives: what configuration have you used for the older games - kempston or Sinclair?
@SpriteworxАй бұрын
@@jamesbateman521 I don’t actually play games much but I imagine it would be Kempston.

How much "play" or "slop" is there in the stick mechanisms? I have an Arcader and like it a lot, but as standard it had too much slop, I had to make a larger bush for the bottom of the stick to reduce the amount of travel before the switches activated. The mechanism in the black Steve Elmer stick seems to be good in this regard.
@SpriteworxАй бұрын
@@robm8809 the stick action seems technically the same between the Elmer stick and the arcadeR but to me the Elmer seems much tighter probably due to the octagonal restrictor plate even though the travel is probably the same.

Can I ask another newbie question 😅 did you change the resolution on your screen as it looks sharper than on my tv via hdmi?
@SpriteworxАй бұрын
@@jamesbateman521 for the gameplay? It’s just running from the Next connected to my computer through an hdmi capture device.
@jamesbateman521Ай бұрын
@@Spriteworx interesting. I’ll play about the the tv output and see if I can change anything. Mine is a 48” TV and it looks a little stretched. Although, could be me 😊
