It's so satisfying to see retro minis painted with such an effort and sort of "redeeming" the old sculpts, that are so often dismissed when compared to new ones. I tip my normal-head-sized-hat to you, sir!
@AFnord3 жыл бұрын
I think people have a tendency of fixating a bit on the bad sculpts and let them represent the "classics" in their minds. The quality of the sculpts were far less consistent back then than they are now (though GW is not always spot on these days either, though nowadays it tends to be clutter that's the big issue), with some still looking great, and some looking not so great. The fact that they tried to cast these in as few pieces as possible also did not necessarily make for the best minis, with some being far better at hiding their flatness than others.

I played Space Wolves in that era and had an entire Great Company's worth - 100+ marines (all metal), plus Rhinos, Bikes, Predators, Dreadnoughts, etc. Never got them to look 'Eavy Metal quality, but yes they were a nightmare to paint and get looking good. My daughter has what I kept hold of now and they still bring a smile when you see them on the tabletop - way more interesting than the Ultramarines. This brought a happy nostalgic tear to my eye :D
