Retro Review: Canon PowerShot A550 7.1MP Camera

I work as a professional photographer, and just purchased this camera. I don’t use it for client work, but for private, fun and retro style images this seems like the perfect choice. Can’t wait 🎉

Yeah i also bought a560 (7.1mp 4x) for fun, than i wanted more so bought Sony hx5v (10.1mp 10x) , than i wanted more fun so i bought Olympus c-750 (4mp 10x) 😅😂

Had a A560 like 10 years ago, and one day I lost it when riding my bike, just literally dropped it somewhere and I could not find it anymore. After that I didn't have a digital camera, was taking photos only with my smartphone. They were good quality, but it was kinda lacking the optical zoom, image stabilization and longer exposure times for taking nice photos at night. So recently I picked up a A570 IS from Canon, actually got it for like 20 euro! And I'm happy with it, it even takes 32GB SDHC cards no problem.

I have an A550 which looks almost the same besides the smaller screen My family has had it since i was a kid and i have so many memories with it. Its been sitting in the house for a very long time and only just found it again today. The screws are a bit corroded and the rubber door for the USB port is gone but i hope to get it restored one day It still has its 1GB SD card inside it has a lock on it! I didnt know SD cards came with a lock switch but it has the lock!

how did you fix the lock thing i have that same 1gb sd card inside and i want to use it but i couldnt do that

Recently i picked up a PowerShot A590 IS. It is my second A590 IS because my first Canon was stolen. Although your age, It's amazing how It still can to take nice shots, sometimes better than modern Smartphones!

I use this camera for my videos, and although its resolution is not very good, it fulfills its purpose.

I believe the video out is set at 640 X 480. But the quality of photos is something like 3200 X whatever.

I use the panasonic eneloops 2000mAh and they seem to work very good. Thanks to the viewfinder you can turn off your screen using the DISP. button and aim only with the viewfinder. This extends the battery life A LOT. And the viewfinder itself is pretty accurate, and it works even with the optical zoom.

It says "A560" on the front. These two were pretty similiar, but A550 didn't have face detection, and was limited to 1GB files, so you could record only 8 minutes of VGA video at 30fps.
