Very cool. I designed the original carve board while working with Joe Gerlach, Brad's father, around 96-97. Being that I was into ski racing, hardboot snowboarding, and surfing larger waves, it was my best attempt to duplicate the efforts required for each. I fully intended to continue the development of the board, primarily the trucks, until Joe f'd me over, re-neging on our contract. My intent was to design a simple speed sensitive friction device that would have eliminated the wobbles created by the looseness of the boards flex. Oh well... I now love living at Lake Tahoe's northeast corner.

Hello! Thanks for commenting and glad you liked the video. Those trucks are amazing and the way it can brake in a carve like edging is so fun. I wish it was mine... I may hit up the owner again this spring and see if I can go further than the section in this video. BTW - every time I drive through that part of the road going up or down from the resort think of the CarveBoard and my ride down. When the random people in the hybrid took my camera for the chase vehicle that was a highlight. Such a good time, this one of the funnest to make videos I have on the channel! Tahoe is legit, one of my favorite forests - I spent sometime shredding shape skis at Northstar and Squaw just over a decade ago. Also rode some of the MTB trails at Grass Valley side of the park 5 years or so ago.

Just purchased one off TradeMe for a restoration project. Haven't received it yet but also grabbed a Dervish Sama which I took out yesterday - first time on a board for 40 years. Awesome!

Man that thing was a treat! A friend of mine has it in his insane collection - actually maybe I should do a video about THOSE someday! Crazy vintage boards, clay wheels and all man.

Just bought one at a store up here in Canada, they were originally planning on being the Canadian distributers and now found themselves with a handful of them in their storage room... picked it up for $200 Canadian and can't wait for the snow to melt up here so I give it at rip...

That's great. I'm too scared to ride on the road I live in Korea, and I'm still enjoying carvestik, which is 25 years old. I want to buy parts, but I'm sad because there's no place to sell them now

That thing was a blast, I was psyched to have had the opportunity to make this video with it!

Wasn’t really until the very end of the day I felt I had it down, being able to turn back uphill was a game changer. My legs were burnt this am tho lol! Thanks for watching!

Great boards. The smaller surfstiks were more usable and still had the same surfing feel. Fun even on a flat outdoor basketball court just pumping around. They’re not made for speed, they’re made for carving and pumping.

I would love to get one!

Wow this looks super fun. Is there a way to brake or slide on that board? Or do you just jump out and pray for the best?😅

I found I could really scrub speed carving hard… that run out was after a sandy washed out section I had straight lined through and boom too much and I can’t power slide so lucky on my bail eh?!? Yikes

Any idea where to find replacement tires/rims for these boards? I have the same one and have a cracked rim that can't be repaired and have spent countless hours on the internet in search for the same type of rims and tires but no luck. Any help is appreciated! Nice video btw!

I have no idea… this board was so cool. Super fun experience, my legs were so sore the next day, not from skating but all the hiking lol

I've had a Carveboard for aobut 20 years now. Very niche piece of equipment. You need just the right slope to maintain speed, but not so steep that you rocket down the hill. Definitley NOT a downhill board, as you found out! Nothing really beats the surf feel of it though when you find the right grade.

Right?!?! I certainly cannot skate downhill anyway - so this was pure bravery on my part lol.

Bought one new when they came out back in the 90s. Rode it a handful of times, only b/c the speed scared the crap outta me going downhill. 30 years later, dug it out of the shed & dusted it off. I’m no spring chicken & will try again, this time lowering the tire psi to make it much slower.
@boisebroncoadventures2 жыл бұрын
Good hard carves can slow it down too, but PSI is your best bet for regulating speed. I was all padded up too this was my first time skating down a road even so quite an experience for me
