There’s a reason why retro is becoming popular again. I believe it’s because so many of us long for past times when the world was a better place, life was more cheerful and less stressful, and the future looked bright instead of bleak.

As long as a tube has life and the flyback transformer works, a CRT TV analog TV is repairable. That can’t be said about digital flat screens. You can always digitally backup all your tapes and then re record tapes onto new VHS, if you desire.

I'm not surprised to see TVs from like the 80s and 90s becoming a bit more popular again. Yes, they're heavy, bulky and not always in high definition, but guess what? The quality/durability is often FAR higher than the modern stuff that will be in the junk yard in like 10 years or so.

So for us, ever since the mistake of throwing out our N64 Pikachu console, I've told my mom not to throw out stuff unless I'm absolutely sure that I'm not longer using it anymore. Uh, yeah, because life is good when you have something that holds a lot of emotional memories with. Radios, portable dvd players, boom boxes, MP3 players, Zune and so many other things to cherish that holds a lot of thoughts and memories in our lifetime. When people say “back in the day,” they really mean the best of times when everything was good and too many have those moments to live through the dread of the present.

Tastes change. I’ve been saying that having everything consolidated into one device (smartphones) only works in modern history’s buying preferences. Show an iPhone to someone in the 1930’s and they’d ask why they’re paying a pretty penny for features they’ll never use, and remark that if it gets stolen, then they lose everything.

I remember we had 2 old school TV's, and one of them was in storage. There was some rainfall that got into the storage room and so my dad decided he would use the spare TV for parts. I remember even when he did need the parts, they would work perfectly in the TV in our living room. I still remember him opening up the TV's and fiddling about. Lol, good old times. Now they're disposable. Any small issue and you throw it away for a new one. If there's warranty, most likely the provider will just replace it for a new one because its cheaper for them that way.

Reminds me of the famous Gameboy that got damaged in a bomb blast within a US soldier’s pocket during a war in the Middle East in the early 1990s and it amazingly survived and still works today with it on display in it’s demo mode within the NY Nintendo store museum! It’s just the LCD display on it has faded quite a bit and they also featured that Gameboy in a Nintendo Power magazine issue from just after it was initially damaged in the bomb blast! :)

There is nothing wrong with this, in my opinion. I still have some physical media myself because it is simpler as opposed to having to be consumed with everything digital. I think people want simple so its good to have these simpler mediums lying around. Its not just about nostalgia.

I have a collection of Sony cassette and CD portable players...one is the first CD player...about the size of a typical paperback book. Some of the later CD players look like miniature flying saucers! The collection features other makes as well. Going back further, my collection also covers 100 year old radios, Victrolas, as well as telephones...1918-1963. On the TV side of things, I have one of the first Watchman sets. My HiFi Stereo system features Sony components from 1981, and broadcast turntables from 1960. Record collection covers Edison cylinders, 78s...1900-1958...45s, covering the classic rock era of the 1950s-early 60s...as well as many LPs. from 1948-1970! Love the past!!

The cassettes I made back in the late 80s and 90s still sound good playing in my Denon double cassette player through my baby advent speakers ...through a Denon receiver!!! I wish they would have not stopped making Walkmans...Then I went through 3 iPods from Apple! Then the buggers stopped making and supporting them. So I went ahead and bought 3 Sandisk 32gb and have 2 of them hooked up to speakers and a small stereo amp in different rooms. One is for when I go to the gym.

There is a way to make pirated GBA on the cheap though and add the rom onto it if you want to go analog with gba games.
