@@tonyp9313 That's what I'm saying. In the 80s you had to work to see the end of a game. Now, you have to work to see the "real" end of a game. Whether you're the type to look up guides has a lot to do with what generation you were from OR how much time you're willing to sink into a game's story, as almost all time sinks these days have to do with narrative. I'm not against this at all. I love reading. I love stories. I love the fine motor challenges that video games present, I love spending time on media I find worthwhile.

Just like you figured out your life would be easier when you're older. If it couldn't be beat after an hour or so of trying then I'd watch a superplay of the boss. It's good to at least give it X number of tries before looking to emulate someone else's performance and look for tips in a guide. If you just trace a playthrough video or strategy guide without attempting to your best ability beforehand, that's on the same level as constant autosave. Constant (think every 1 to 5 minutes or so) autosave destroys any possible tension or desire to keep your character alive because there are no real consequences. I grew up on atari and NES and DOS 5.25inch floppy IBM PC in the 90s (we had little money for entertainment) so I have no sympathy for people who've grown up on this side of 2000 where autosave is an expectation not a privilege.

Great video! Well, if Yoshi's Island hates you, Yoshi's Island DS will break your kneecaps, kick your dog and burn down your house. It's basically Yoshi's Island but like 10 times harder! 😅 I have too many games that hate. Most of which are classics that are yelling at me to play them like Chrono Trigger. Other games that hate me do everything they can to stop me like Dynamite Headdy and Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts. Contra Hard Corps keeps sending me death threats...

Hollow Knight is tricky. It acts all nice like it loves you. It lets you explore and learn its secrets, and then it invites you to come over to its place for something more intimate... and next thing you know, you're in Godhome staring down the Pantheon of Hallownest, trying to convince yourself that over 40 bosses in a row with no checkpoints is perfectly normal and not completely abusive. On one hand, there were definitely some endorphins from finishing it and getting the platinum trophy. On the other, you see that less than 2% of players have done it, so no, it wasnot normal. It was not fair. You just loved it more than it loved you.

@@asimplenameichose151 It's definitely an all-time great game. I don't regret taking the time to do it all, though Godhome seems like it's probably pretty unfair for most folks. I have to admit, though, that finally beating Absolute Radiance was one of the most satisfying, cathartic moments I've had in modern gaming, like getting a 1cc on a difficult shooter or Ghosts n Goblins. It's ruthless, but when you do manage to do it, it's a rush. Plus, I got to lord it over my 23 and 17 year old nephews who also love Hollow Knight that their 43 year old uncle still can wreck a game before them.

Choose wisely or you and/or your love interest could die. 🤪 Because of that, there's memes like, saying you don't like fries could lead you to the bad end. lol

I feel this way about Pokémon, specifically almost everything from gen3 onward. The first two generations and me all get along just fine, but starting in gen3, the invisible stat experience system was reworked as if it was intentionally designed to trigger OCD anxiety in me. I only ever got a brief reprieve during gen6 because the super training system offered alternative to counting encounters, and again more recently in Legends Arceues, which used an entirely different stat system altogether.

I watched some tips on Ninja Gaiden a few years ago, practiced some moves on an emulator, then got after it. When I play through it, I just use the sword and don't stop. You'll learn the parts where you choose to stop, or have to stop, maybe pick a certain power-up, but just plow ahead full speed with your sword. If you get beat on an end boss in the finale, and get sent back to 6-1, just take a deep breath, turn off your NES, walk to the kitchen, and eat a banana. Not today. Some other time.
