Wow! I know I am a bit late to the party in regard to this video. Gosh, though I had forgotten how these toys used to pop! You turned me on to Stan Solo and Trash Compactor a little over a year ago. Now I learn about the Next 17, quality reproduction stickers, and all sorts of techniques for restoration of my sets. It's amazing. I'm 51, and I have recaptured the excitement of being 6 again. I'm going to keep binge watching. My wife and I are going on vacation next month. I will be in my home state. I am actually working for my former company for a few days so I can buy new(old) sets and more figures from the aforementioned folks. Thanks again, brother!

Here in the Netherlands (80's) we had a rental store called Videoland (not Captain N related) that would give you complete Kenner Star Wars sets if you rented all 3 movies together, me and my sister got a lot of Star Wars toys this way! Thanks for these awesome vids they bring me back to better times!

Thank you for making this video (4 years ago)!!! I found it helpful in completing my own Slave 1 restoration. I second the zacparis stickers. They're vinyl-based, so more durable and forgiving if you need to pull away and reapply.

You can tell just how clean Tom had this just from the squeaks when you're handling/ applying the stickers. Literally, squeaky clean.

Just a note on the gun oil. All petroleum products break down plastic over time. Try a product called Corroseal. It can be applied with a small paint brush and it converts and seal the that and won't do long term damage to plastics. Your restoration looks phenomenal by the way.

You can still disassemble parts of the hull while leaving the cannons attached. You simply unscrew the back/bottom engines section, then you can reach into the upper hull halves and seating/stabilizer mechanisms if you so choose. Those, in turn, are easily removable at this stage. Helped me clean mine, but the screws themselves got really cruddy over the years, too.

FYI, when it comes to fine scratches on clear plastic, I use a polishing compound from Tamiya (*Tamiya is well-known for high quality model kits*). They make three types: course, fine, and finish. The *finish* compound is very smooth (not abrasive at all) and is recommended for polishing minor marks & surface wear from aircraft canopies with a soft polishing cloth. I've had some very good results with this stuff on model jets and plastic display cases, but since it's ultra-fine it can take a while to see the results.
@rolfathan6 жыл бұрын
It still shocks me how colorlesss their first Slave 1 was. In many cases I have a soft spot for the original ships. But this is one where I have to say I prefer the 90s POTF version a bit more for getting the more accurate colors.
@Barada734 жыл бұрын
I kind of agree. Since this was a toy that I never owned as a kid, I don't have any nostalgia driving me towards the vintage version. In fact, the Shadows of the Empire Slave 1, from 1996, was the first time I ever owned the toy and that was 24 years ago. So, I actually do have nostalgia for the POTF2 vehicle. My only complaint is that I prefer the smokey plastic canopy on Kenner's version over the clear plastic canopy from Hasbro's rerelease. I'm not really sure why Hasbro went with clear plastic.

Nice restoration. I own 2 SOTE Slave 1, one of those mint in box with the stickers still on the sheet. The other one is in very good condition, all stickers still there, no missing parts. Maybe i will upgrade it like Toy Polloi did. I owned the TVC Slave 1 but sold it. As great as it is with all those features, size, and everything else, it lacks something essential: it has no soul. For me it was just a slab of plastic, beautiful to behold but nothing more. The SOTE has some rustic charme, it is cool and touches the kid in me.

"Hoppes #9 is gentle, with no solvents." Lol. It breaks down the carbon left after shooting. It is common knowledge that CLP has solvents in it. I stopped using Hoppes years ago for that very reason.
@DemoDick14 жыл бұрын
Hoppe’s No. 9 lubricant is just plain mineral oil. The copper solvent and other bore cleaning products obviously remove fouling and metal. But the lube is just repackaged mineral oil.

Hi, do you have any tips for removing enamel paint (the kind for model kits) from an action figure? I used denatured alcohol and a medium toothbrush and it got most of it out, but there's still a little bit left (red paint), do you think it might have soaked into the plastic somehow? It's the Yak Face Kenner figure, lol. 10 year-old me thought it was a good idea to paint it.

Just like to make a mention of an ebay seller, digifilmguy. He is also selling die cut stickers and the color and sheen are identical to the originals. I have done my Empire X-Wing, which for the first time since Christmas of '81 is lacking the battle damage decals. (He makes them but I've made the suggestion that he offer them in a static cling version, like Colorforms.) My Y-Wing and a Slave I I recently acquired complete but with tired stickers. I bought sets for all my vehicles except the Rebel Transport as he doesn't have that set done yet.

How would you get yellowing off of a Slave 1 ship? It’s gray so I wasn’t sure if Hydrogen peroxide would work.
@retroblasting4 жыл бұрын
Hydrogen peroxide could possibly work, but chemical processes are always a risk, and the yellowing often tends to return. So acceptance might be the better approach. Tread carefully.

You know.... I have been experiencing an issue with toys. Sometimes one part will fit snug, and tight, but the other piece might have slight play to it, for example cannons. Is this a common thing?

No reaction video? I think it would have been cool to see Toms handsome face when you gave it back to him! I found a first gen Kenner Han in an old box of random toys one time, just 2 years ago and, apparently the look of childhood joy on my face NEARLY blew the sale but when the seller came over to see what I was looking at, all he saw was a beat-up 30 year old hunk of plastic and waved it off. Yep, I bet Toms reaction was similar hehe

I'm already giving it a "Thumbs Up" PRIOR to watching it ...Why? Cause it's dealing with the dopest Star Wars character ever? Well...it's his SHIP, not the legend himself, so, NO, that's NOT the reason (although I'm sure as hell NOT going to give it a Thumbs Down either, as anything Fett related is gonna get a little a little preferential treatment, duh! 👍).. Anyway...I'll watch it on my lunch break....I'm really curious as to how this is going to turn out, because I was STUPID, as I had recently sold MY worn Slave I (that I indeed had since Christmas 1981, as it was my yearly ONE "non-clothing" Christmas gift from my Grandma Jane)....I REALLY wanna see how this turns out....Will check out when I take a break later! Keep up the great work2!! YOU BOTH are great!!

At the risk of sounding ignorant, why not paint the details instead of going the decal route? Decals have an ugly aging, I know it wouldn't look like a new toy, more like a scale model, but isn't the point to have it cool for display? I don't mean to offend.
