My screen is great and the hinge feels great. Zero light bleed. My only concern is that having multiple positions might make it less durable, but I base this on nothing. TBH, this is a perfect handheld for me. If the hinges prove to hold up for a while, I’ll probably buy a few more on an AliE sale.

I'm glad you found things you really enjoyed about this handheld! For me, the hinge is absolutely inexcusable. This is a device built primarily for opening and closing that hinge, and that's a big selling point for it, I couldn't believe how bad it functioned and sounded in person. My wife said it reminded her of an old broken flip phone she had when she was younger haha. I did decide to return it.

I also had a bad experience with my first Miyoo Flip which had a super floppy hinge that wouldn’t even fully close. It was also loud and clicky like someone slapping me in the face every time I opened or closed it. I also had really bad left analog stick drift where it gets “stuck” in the up position randomly, even after recalibration. Having said that, I got my second one today and it has NONE of those issues. The hinge is as solid as my 35xxSP and there is no stick shift at all. It feels much more reliable and less loud/clicky/sandy when it opens and closes. I think this is what Miyoo wanted, not the first one… This just goes to show that the intent is an amazing device but that QA process…. needs work

How is the audio out of the headphone jack? It was absolutely terrible with the Miyoo Mini plus, way too quiet. Also can it charge via usbc to usbc and laptop power bricks? worrying about using the correct kind of charger was one of the biggest problems i had with the miyoo mini plus as well.

The hinge is completely fine. The snaps are obviously indents in the internal mechanism that allows it to hold the four positions (three open, and closed). I'm not sure why the author thinks that the noise is from flexing in the shell at the hinge.

Yeah - I’ve had 4 Nintendo 3DS’s that all have this exact hinge mechanism/function. It feels perfectly fine to me.

@@RetroBreezeYT if yours is just a one off then that's good news but still, the way that hinge cracks/snaps into the different angles just doesn't sound right (which from all the reviews I've watched seems to be the intended design of the hinge). That snapping noise is definitely not from the plastic like you say it is, the hinge just has large detents, to hold the screen firmly in position. Every 3ds model has a very loud hinge like this, and mine is still holding up perfectly after tens of thousands of folds over the past decade. I’m sure this hinge will be just fine

Every time someone says analog sticks are good for shmups, an unicorn dies :) Jokes aside, to play really well with precision, one needs quality digital input, which is present on the Flip: the d-pad. People enjoy playing with analog sticks because they resemble the arcade ones, but arcade sticks are digital, not analog. The function is completely different. Analog sticks have partial movement, which hinder precision and will make you die A LOT if you're playing seriously to clear a game with limited continues or trying to get a high score. Blazing Star could be more manageable if you played with the d-pad.

Either you have an amazing mic or mine isn’t that loud. I personally think the hinge is better than RG35xx SP because the more I used it the worst it got. I think the SP has their hinge too loose in my opinion. Overtime and lots of use it is not the same.

My hinge feels better than the one on my RG35XXSP. That model is odd, it flexes beyond its one position, but doesn’t stay in position. The Flip has multiple positions and they feel rock solid. Mine doesn’t make a loud noise, but I did see one other person on Reddit mention theirs was. The screen on my model is beautiful. Perfect, so perfect I’m shocked. I thought it would be a downgrade from the MM+ and it’s probably an upgrade. I put MinUI on mine and the black levels were amazing. If anyone out there can get a good one off the production line, they should be happy. Hopefully the hinge holds up.

I just can't wrap my head around these design choices... these are NOT mass market devices. They are niche enthusiast devices. You don't need every single one every released. You need like 3, at MOST. A cheap compact one 8/16 bit one and expensive universal one, and maybe a flip or mini, more specialized one. There's no real reason to have more than that. So, given that fact, why do they try to make these things dirt cheap like everyone NEEDS to be able to get one? If you make a genuinely good device that is high quality and serves all the needs, people WILL buy it at a higher price. This honestly turns me off being cheap more than being does. To me, cheap equates to junk, and I'm willing to pay for a quality specialized device, which is exactly what I WANT. The issue is there are always tradeoffs, because companies make these things so cheap and junky, and you're stuck with junk when people would have no problem buying more premium devices, and may be even MORE likely than they would to buy this cheap junk. When i see a device around $75 or less, I expect it to be a piece of junk. Ideally, I'd expect to pay around $100-$150 for a high quality device, and like $150-$250 for a higher end more premium device, and around $80-$100 for a basic 16-bit device that's high quality. I think Retroid and AYN are the leaders in quality devices, with SOME of the Ambernic devices being high quality as well, the ones with T820 chipsets. The Ambernic SP is ACCEPTABLE, but I still think its overly cheap, and id rather pay a few extra bucks if it was a better quality device. Ideally, I'd like the Miyoo flip with a slightly higher build quality than than SP, for around $100-$115. I know it seems odd to complain about things been priced TOO low, but there are obviously downsides that come along with it. I don't need 100 devices, just a few good ones that will perform good and last a long time, but I don't have the option. Either it's an overly cheap junky device, or an overkill too expensive device for retro emulation. I have a $1500 phone, so I really have no desire to buy a high end snapdragon device from Ayaneo, but I don't want a cheap h700 device either with like 1gb ddr3. Something with a SD865 or RK3588, or MTD1100 would be a great balance.

@@KageChen With good discounts, but I didn’t have them at the time. I bought it directly from Miyoo Store.
