Retrofitted Electric Retractable Tow Bar

Hello & Welcome back to Caravan Escapades and welcome to this Vlog, If you can remember back to the NEC Show in February, We came across a stand that was demonstrating a retrofitted fully electric retractable tow bar. I haven’t seen one of these before. This is being supplied in the UK by Company called ORIS Automotive. I invited Jim Bedford the MD along to work to give us a full demonstration of the product and answer some of those questions you have been asking.

Interesting demo, but until I'm no longer able to, I prefer to bend down & plug it in - there's less to go wrong and saves a lot of wonga! (my towbar was £500) Handy for people with back problems. Decent video.

Thank You, I guess its very much a personal choice, Unfortunately to have the normal towbar fitted to my MB was in this price bracket, I also love my Gadgets, :-) thanks for watching and happy camping

I had a factory fitted semiautomatic towbar on my Volvo xc90 4 yrs ago & it was £1200. This towbar seems a bit expensive for aftermarket.

Hiya, would you be able to get the Factory Fitted one for £1200 now. It's also fully automatic. I paid £1100 for a detachable on the Mercedes 2 years ago.

@@CaravanEscapades101 I’ve just checked on the Volvo website, the towbar is fully electric and comes with stability control for £1400. Like I said £1200 for an aftermarket towbar that doesn’t charge the battery or works the fridge is a bit much. Btw no factory fits towbars , I’ve ordered several new cars with the towbar option ticked & the car is either taken to the local towbar fitters or the dealership installed it themselves, that’s Ford , Land Rover & Volvo.

@scotiajinker8392 Hi Scott, thanks for the extra info. Just to clarify, you can get the fridge and battery charging. It is just an additional wiring mod. I guess this option is for people like me who didn't buy the Car New and fitting of an electric retractable tow bar wasn't an option till now. Thanks for watching and commenting. Happy Camping James

@@CaravanEscapades101 your missing a wee point, I ordered my towbar when I bought my volvo . The factory didn’t fit it , the dealer did. With the correct wiring it charges my battery & works the fridge. I bet if you went to Mercedes they would fit a towbar for you.

@scotiajinker8392 Hiya. It was the first thing that I asked when I purchased the car. They told me there was no option to have an electric retractable towbar fitted. The only time that MB would fit one is when ordering the car. They did say they could fit a detachable, or I could get one done myself. As I understand it, this is the case with a few brands and electric retractable tow bar. It's good to know this is an option with Volvo.

The isba very good chance your OEM Tow bar was made and supplies by them.

Yes more than likely, they are great tbf, nice to have it tucked away after use.
