Great video, I usually just recap power supplies that are 30ish years old or more. Those were nice Nichicons too. Electrolytics are a pain.

it was the epoxy… when it gets old it will be able to transfer electricity instead of isolating… it starts when getting hot… you van see it at the color being dark brown… if you only removed the epoxy you had same result. mine wavestation ex had same problem

Funnily enough, I do still have the old capacitors with the epoxy stuck to them. I just measured across the epoxy, turns out it is slightly conductive. Although it's in the range of megaohms. In my case the epoxy wasn't actually in contact with anything conductive though, so I doubt this would've fixed my particular issue. Though I can see how it would cause problems if it was on other parts of the board. Good to know for future repairs either way.
