I have an N30 Pro. I love it. Not much trouble setting it up compared to several other controllers. Not counting figuring out N64 controls setup, but that seems to apply to ALL controllers. PS3 style aftermarket controllers require some weird extra setup that this doesn't. I did wear out the left analog and the B button, after A LOT of use. Otherwise no visible wear, it is a quality device. If anyone from 8Bitdo is listening a repair/replacement parts market would be great. It's not too bad on assembly/disassembly with a jewelers screwdriver set and flat razor to pop the back cover. One more thing my N30 Pro has vibration, but it has never worked with any game. L1 R1 and select makes them buzz without. Small complaints over all, would buy it again over any other controller I've bought.
@OfficialChaseBrogan3 жыл бұрын
Spot on there! Couldn’t agree more. The vibration I actually have gotten to work on retropie. I don’t have it enabled currently but I switch cards around a lot and o and it enabled on my last setup. I believe you have to enable it in one of the option below the pairing option. Can’t recall if it worked on every game but definitely worked on some. It was the 8bitdo model I used for this video so slightly different but they’re not far off between models so I’m sure it would work. Just have to tinker with it a bit

Even with the discontinued version of the SF30 Pro / SN30 Pro, you can still use the Upgrade Tool of the current one. My controller was automatically detected (just plugged it in, no special startup mode needed) and installed Firmware v1.35. For me there was one crucial detail missing from this tutorial, and a whole load of unnecessary hassle ensued. My gamepad was the *8bitdo Pro 2*. On these pads there is a switch on the bottom with positions S.A.D.X and it is defaulted to position S. If you try the setup like this, the RPI will successfully connect to the pad and then in the emulation station when you go to Configure Inputs, it successfully recognises the Pro2 as a gamepad (it states one controller connected). But when you hold down 'A' or any other button for that matter, nothing will happen and you will be stuck. I am not _entirely_ sure what the positions of the switch on the gamepad are supposed to do, but in the instructions it lists the positions for different types of system e.g. PC, Switch, Android etc. I decided to try them all and I moved it from S up to X. On X it finally worked! Unfortunately for me I tried updating my system prior to this and the update corrupted everything and I had to provision my entire system again from the beginning. And only some hours later I finally discovered the 'X' switch solution. So anyway I hope this update finds someone else and allows them to avoid the same hassles!

I did exactly as you described. Sadly, the analogue Sticks aren't recognized correctly (left one sometimes, but only up and left, right never). All buttons work perfectly, including the L3 and R3. When using the controller *wired* I got no problems. Also, when having it connected to my FireTV-Stick 4k using bluetooth (D-Input), I have no problems at all. Hmmm did you update the firmware on it prior to pairing? Are you positive it's a genuine 8bitdo controller? A lot of the non name brand controller versions register as "wireless controllers". You don't see knockoffs as often now but this particular model did have some out there. I had the misfortune of getting one about a year ago off amazon (advertised as the real thing). You are using bluetooth right and not a dongle receiver? Also, not super familiar with this exact model but if you look at the 4 lights on the bottom of the controller between the analog sticks...when it's powered on which button lights up?
@SolidHyunkel3 жыл бұрын
Now I now. Each of the 4 pair modes the control have (windows, Android, Mac and Nintendo switch) has its own name so I was pressing A to pair because since I don't have a Mac I thought I could use that "unused pair slot" and the name the controller assigns to itself in this mode is "wireless controller" and its incompatible with retropie. I was able to finally use it as input pairing it in windows mode but for some reason, both trigger buttons don't work so I can't map them... It's one mystery after another. Try this…. You’ll need a keyboard hooked up to your pi…. First go into Bluetooth snd remove the controller you’ve been trying to pair because it’s likely still populated into the Bluetooth list. Once that’s done go to main menu and then at the bottom like you are going to shutdown but hit quit emulationstation instead. This brings you to the terminal. Now you’ll type the following commands… sudo apt update (then hit enter) After this updates a new line forms in terminal so youll then type in sudo apt upgrade (hit enter) After this upgrades type in Sudo reboot (hit enter) Your system reboots and you should be able to go through the pairing process now.

Hmm maybe your controller went into a different mode? There’s 4 modes on these. You want it in switch mode I believe. Make sure the battery is fully charged. Sometimes if it’s not it can behave funny. Does the controller up on connected devices? It could be listed under your connected devices still if you already ha fit paired at one point. If so you would need to remove it first then try to repair it otherwise it won’t work.

I'm currently using an X-Arcade Tankstick which connects as controllers 1 and 2 - I've been using them for a long time successfully. But now I'm trying to connect my two 8bitdo Bluetooth controllers (Pro 2) as controllers 3 and 4. I can get them to successfully pair and connect via Bluetooth. The problem is in Emulation Station, the Configure Input screen says 2 gamepads detected (it should say 4) and they are only my X-Arcade controllers. If I press/hold the buttons for either 8bitDo there is no response. I read about setting the udev rule, and the Bluetooth menu in Retropie does that for you if you select the option to do so. So I did that, but that didn't help. Another thing I checked - in Configuration Editor, there is an option Choose joypad order which let you assign controllers to an order from 1 through 4. If I try to set one of them, my only options are the two X-Arcade controllers, not the 8bitdo controllers. So I'm stuck at this point in Configure Input. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Hey! You likely are in the wrong mode. 8bitdo has 4 modes for each controller. You have to try each until one works. Almost every will likely work to navigate but it won’t work in games. Try that. I believe switch is the mode that is best but each model could differ. Try that and let me know.

I’m following this video and even using your 256GB image but the pi will not pair with my SF30. At first it would find the 8bitdo controller but then it would hang on the following screen when trying displayonly. Now it won’t allow me to remove “pro controller” to try pairing again (getting a GDbus error “resource not ready”) and the pi is unable to find any Bluetooth devices. Could this have messed up my pi’s Bluetooth radio? Nothing works. Not restarting or retrying.
@OfficialChaseBrogan3 жыл бұрын
If you cut the power and restart are you able to navigate around your card? Not sure what’s going on there. I have no seen this issue before or that error message. Did you update your firmware prior to connecting your controller? Have you tried any other controllers via Bluetooth? The card wouldn’t cause issues to the pi itself. If there’s an issue with the card it stays there. No risk of it causing issues onto the pi. Worst case I’d be happy to exchange the card for you.
@michaelyork56173 жыл бұрын
I think the reason for my issue is here: retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/30262/bluetooth-retropie-setup-script-issues. It’s not the SD card. Apparently there’s an issue with Bluetooth controllers on the latest raspberry Pi 4 B. I haven’t been able to try the suggestions to overcome this issue yet.
@OfficialChaseBrogan3 жыл бұрын
@@michaelyork5617 That's really odd though because that issue has been tied to the SN30 Pro + controller which I have heard some people did experience that issue with that controller and retropie while others did not. I actually just ordered one of those today to test out and possibly do a video on. You said you have the SF30 which I actually have and used in this video. I'm still using it to this day and just set it up on my arcade setup earlier this evening without any issues. You could potentially have a faulty controller or be running a different version of the firmware than I am. I actually haven't updated my firmware since the video here was made. Basically I have no idea what's going on unfortunately. It certainly won't hurt to try those suggestions in the the link there.

Try switching emulators it may be defaulting to one that doesn’t work. Try the wary mame emulators not the later ones like mame 2010 2015 etc. That wouldn’t be a controller issue sounds like either emulator issue or something with Roms.
