Back in Nagoya visiting the biggest arcade chain in Japan called Taito Station. These arcade centers usually have at least 4 floors filled with arcade machines. In this video, I'm taking all of you with me for a full POV tour of what this place looks like and how it can survive after so many years. Enjoy!

I've been gaming since the early 80s. The arcade scene used to be huge here in San Diego. You used to find arcade machines in 711's, laundry stores, pizza joints, bars, etc... in addition to all the actual arcades they had everywhere. It was really sad to see it all go away once online gaming exploded in the early 00's. I wish arcades would make a come back here.

Awesome. Thanks for sharing. I could only imagine what it was like back in the days. And I totally agree. Online gaming will never be the same as the Arcade. Hopefully its just a fad and we will go back to what really meant something, one day in the future...

I also grew up in San Diego and was going to arcades there back in the '90s and early 2000s. We would also take trips up to the greater LA area and go to places like Arcade Infinity and Super Arcade. I really wish they would make at least some kind of a comeback as there are so many new games over the past 20 years that are still worth playing today.

Its a desert..the new generation doesnt know how it feels to go outside after school and go to your best friend's house to get him out his house "no phones" you meet and decide to go to the arcades and play until you're out of coins..stay and watch some guys doing mini competitions etc then returning back home talking about the special moves you learned and how you passed these levels and think of tomorrow how to get more coins and how to earn them..etc This generation knows only the consoles or the smartphones

Its a desert late in the evening during the weekday. Weekends are another story. But of course. I have the same thoughts like you about all of this. Really nice tour. I was at Akihabara @ Tokyo few months ago. I have to admit though I was really disappointed visiting the various arcade centres. Being an 80's kids, I was hoping to find retro arcade cabinets with games from 80's through 2000's eras. It's sad they are now replaced with mostly claw machines, capsule toys vending machines and dance/music themed games. 😢 I understand these are more profitable then retro arcade games, but I was still hoping to find a section dedicated to those. If only I had made the trip to Japan 20 years ago.

Next time you are in Tokyo, check out Mikado in Takadanobaba. All classic cabinets from the 80s and 90s. In Osaka there are several retro arcades near Shinsekai. They definitely need to make a sleep mode system, so many machines consume a huge amount of electricity, their screens will burn out if they don't rest. Taito has so many cool franchises, but apparently their bosses may have had a daughter born, and hardcore Taito has turned into a plush girl world.
@RetroMoments
@RetroMoments 3 ай бұрын
Totally agree with everything you said. They need to make a move fast with the CRT screens if they are going to last longer. As for Taito going for more plushies and crane games... Thats just what they have to do since its a buisness and they make more money so nowadays!

Great games, no doubt! But I rarely see those games in Japanese arcades to be honest. It happens, just not often.

A few arcades in Tokyo are operating 24/7. Or at least used to. Taito Station in Nagoya usually closes around 12am.

Yea! Lets see how long it will survive. I thought about this as well after going here a few times in the evening on weekdays. They definitely need more people then. At least its full on the weekends.

Man it’s sad we don’t have arcades like these like back in the day. Now we only have Dave and Busters which is over priced and they only have few arcades. I miss all the arcade centers back in the day.

How do they pay for all the electricity to light this place up? I saw only a few people playing games. Can't even imagine what rent or taxes would be in this location.

100 yen price. You play until you die in the game or its over. Sometimes you have more "continues" depending on the game.

Still great that you have an Arcade nearby. A lot of places dont exist anymore. But my opinion honestly, fighting games are the most fun. Hopefully your arcade will get a fighting game eventually!

Before my first time in Japan I thought so as well, kinda. But as this is the biggest chain of Arcades in Japan, they have to draw people from all different age groups. And claw machines and crane games are definitely becoming bigger with time unfortunately.
