The phone dial tones near the end of this video were used to turn off their transmitters for the evening.

Yep, it was used for all the repeater transmitters CBLT used throughout Ontario.

@@Thunderbirds501 Yeah, I used to see CBC Ontario's sign off in the 90's like that.

That explains that... I thought it meant this: Someone controlling all CBC transmitters, in Toronto, since this is CBC Toronto, must have been calling all transmitters telling them to shut down.
@dukeofrodtown17058 күн бұрын
It was the same just about everywhere else in Canada, though in the 1950s-70s, the transmitters would be turned off after the anthem(s).
@AussieRoadshow14 жыл бұрын
The stuff that starts at 0:09 is SO 1990s!! "And now our national anthem..." Be honest, you all sang along to it. Not that this Aussie knows the words.. O Canada indeed. Loved the ending, to the snow pattern and all lol..

The tones at the end before the signal cuts and goes to static were a remote signal to turn off the transmitter.

Yep, this was used for all the relay transmitters the CBC used for their stations covering the country.

@thesimpsonfan270 Those are tones meant to tell the individual transmitters the CBC uses throughout Ontario to shut off.

Surprised to see so much open space around the CN Tower in the aerial shot. Was that already "old footage" in '92, or was that part of downtown not yet built up, or filled in?

CBLT? That's making me hungry. Anyone in the mood for a Canadian Bacon-Lettuce-Tomato sandwich right now?

As long as it's back bacon! For the record, the L in CBLT is for Lakes as in Great Lakes.

What happened to you video of the CBLT Toronto sign off from 1984, the one with With Glowing Hearts (1979)? I noticed that sign off has disappeared from KZbin.

I'm assuming... the government or some other organization, because this might've been used in movie theatres (as they were all required to play O Canada [and in earlier years, the royal anthem] before movies until 2004 - if you saw the first several Star Wars episodes in Canada when they released or other movies in the 1990s, you had to stand for this).

That would've caused everyone still watching to LOL, causing neighbours and children (including babies) to awaken... to the playing of O Canada segueing into colour bars, then LOUD static. Most younger children are usually asleep past 9pm y'know, and in those days, it'd be ballsy of them to be up to witness this once-common daily ritual.

I'm still possessing the flashback of when I first listened and watched the "South Park" cartoon movie. I really hate to express it to you all of just how much of an insult this is to us fellow Americans and the Canadians. I'm still scoffing at Arnold Schwarzenegger in this caee, especially when he's not knowing that I, however, still appreciate the CBS "60-minutes" newsreporter: Scott Pely who has hounded Trey Parker and Matthew Stone. These 2 men are hard-core Satanists. They definitely had the "South Park" animation crew members scoff at/make fun of the Canadians. They practically insult every country in the world. Anyone can be bad enough to glorify their crummy sense of humor. I doubt that there would be another "South Park" cartoon movie distributed to the general American public.
