Oh yes, 1981. I was 13 and just figuring out the girl next door was actually the best friend I had, ever had, or ever will have. I still remember my dads little talk. I thought it was going to be the birds and bees talk. He looked at me all serious and said "Son don't screw this up cause she's the best you'll ever get" There was never anybody else. Four kids and 11 grandchildren later and life is good. God Bless to you all.

Sometimes a song comes together and it is pure magic. The combination of the catchy, provocative lyrics, Carnes' sultry voice belting out the long notes, and a not-so-subtle mix of 80s synth for good measure! This song was a masterpiece, a song that to me defines the 80s (like Toto's Africa, or A-ha's Take On Me.) We're approaching 40 years since this song came out, and it's a classic, one of the best! We may not be getting any younger but we had great songs in our youth!

I love her voice so much. She hits her notes and oooh it's so scratchy good. Searched for this song for ages after hearing it on the radio as a kid. The sheer stones it must have taken for her to write this and perform it is outside of my ability to fully comprehend.

As an 80s teen, this played so many times on the radio. Memories come flooding in. Notably of an ice rink, skating with my brother, I must have been 7.... So many wrong turns. Life can be terribly hard. I was never prepared. Parents never tell you the truth. They just bring you into the world. Miss the 80s and mum though....

Just compare this classic to any song here in 2020, 80s songs were more like timeless anthems with a irresistible beat interrupted by a bass line and synthesizers to create atmosphere, lyrically poetic with a mystical feel that stands the test of time.

This is one of those rare times where the cover wins. By a landslide. I like Jackie DeShannon, and, even though she wrote this and recorded 1st, this version just takes it to a dark place it really needed. The original is catchy, this is a masterpiece

One of the songs from my childhood that as soon as the first few notes are played I'm immediately transported back to 1981 when I was 11. Going to the fair and hearing this played on the radio. Driving with the windows down and enjoying ZOTS and swedish fish. Coke was still the best and kool-aid made with 2 cups of sugar. Swimming and riding bikes. Playing frisbee and thunderstorms. Ahhhhhhh........life was great.

I keep coming to this extended mix. The music, lyrics and Kim's raspy voice is perfection. It takes me to an incredible place, where my favorite actress ever is very well described as the bad ass strong woman she was. What an awesome tribute to BD. This is definitely none other than Bette Davis: She's precocious, and she knows just what it Takes to make a pro blush All the boys think she's a spy, she's got Bette Davis eyes.
