Hi! Keep working on these educational videos, they are great! The explanation of strategy is excellent and very useful for me (for us all). Amazing. Greetings from Olomouc - Czech Republic :)

Thanks for the feedback 🙂 More on the way - hoping to record another retrosynthesis one tomorrow, and then try a couple with a slightly different type of emphasis.

Nice Video, especially the TCA part was nice. Never heard about this before. Is there any reference about the usage of it?
@CasualChemistry2 жыл бұрын
Thanks 🙂 I was doing some awareness raising for the method as the TCA reagents are pretty easy to use. You’ll see them about in big polyketide total syntheses. There’s a few links here to eg bryostatin www.sigmaaldrich.com/GB/en/technical-documents/technical-article/chemistry-and-synthesis/reaction-design-and-optimization/trichloroacetimidate

How to make Trichloroacetal nitrile?
@CasualChemistry2 жыл бұрын
I probably would buy it in as it’s very cheap. If forced you could probably make it using enolate type chemistry by deprotonating MeCN and reacting with an electrophilic chlorine source. Or the same thing on the anode MeC(O)NH2 followed by a dehydration to the triple bond

Agreed but the point I’m trying to make is it’s a good rough average value for alpha to a general carbonyl for the purposes of mechanisms.
