Hi Miles. I have a question. What would be the basic steps to perform a comparative analysis between two different alternatives that provide heating and cooling for a new building. I did something similar with RetScreen 4 but with RetScreen Expert can't find my way around. Thank you very much.

This is the answer I got from Retscreen support: The quickest way to see how to do this in RETScreen Expert is to use a case study so that you can see what settings. From the File, Open page, click on Case studies/templates in the menu. There, you’ll find a few which show you how to do a comparative analysis of heating/cooling system alternatives. Specifically, the ones called (“Description”) “Energy efficient - house”, “Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB)” (both the office and residential one) and any of the archetypes will show this. To access the archetypes, click on the Virtual Energy Analyzer in the menu, select your location and then choose your facility types from the dropdown lists. Make sure you select one which is under the “Feasibility” header and not “Benchmark”. On the Energy page, you should find the full analysis, similar to RETScreen 4, with structural enhancements. To get to this step manually, you need to be under a buildings facility type on the Facility page (e.g. Residential, Industrial or Commercial/Institutional).

Hello Hussein, The previous version of Retscreen was written in excel. RETscreen Expert is not reliant on excel so there is no exel spreadsheet. You can download a free version of RETscreen Expert from Natural Resources Canada at www.nrcan.gc.ca/energy/software-tools/7465
