Just come across this. My partner's grandfather was Jim Field who fought in North Africa but his service record from 1943 onwards was written in Pencil after he was seconded to the Long Range Desert Group. However, we are slightly at a loss as Jim went Yugoslavia from Italy and did not return from the war until 1946. He would not tell us where he went, but we know he was at Monte Casino, we know he was at El Alamein but afterwards, we have no idea.

Oh my dad, Ernest James Raymond, who served with great pride and distinction should loved to have been on that proud March, but we were down in London as a family and work intervened. Commissioned right through the ranks at the start of WW2 he won the MC in the Western Desert Campaign as a Lieutenant, and ended up as Major. A hero to me and he knew the RNF and his lads were second to none, and anyone who said different well he would errr probably explain and correct them outside as to their view!
