I'd love to see a video about Ostia Antica - it is the most well preserved ancient Roman city in the world. It's located 50 miles south of Rome and was covered by the river Tiber for 1000 years after being evacuated under threat of invasion. PLEASE like this comment so that the guys see it, would make for a brilliant video that I know we would all enjoy.

I have a photograph taken in a portrait studio in Gibraltar in 1880’s. It is a photo of a young man wearing the dress uniform of the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders. The young man is my great grandfather who was on his way to a colonial posting-I don’t know where exactly! He made it back home to Scotland and had a family, including my grandfather. That photo sits next to the one of my father who served in WW2 in the American Army Air Corps at a base in England. He took a leave to visit our family in Scotland and had a photo done dressed in Highland Regimental uniform. Two of my most prized possessions.

@@michaeldurham5351 You could narrate the invasion of the Sea Peoples from their perspective. So, the PoV of the ‘bad guys’ considered one of the cause of the collapse. I read it was more of a mass migration than a mere invasion force. So the protagonists could be some teenage kids travelling in tow with their sea-raiding dad. (YA fiction sells well)

I don't think Gibraltar will ever join Spain its way too British and still quite an important foreward base for the military should they ever need it
@FriedrichBarb
@FriedrichBarb 3 жыл бұрын
Well we already have some Spanish influence here, is a unique mix of English/Spanish as expected, since we let in thousands of workers across the border since they get better wages here rather than in South Andalusia and it helps the workforce here so it’s win win. I’d say 80% of people here speak good Spanish, with many mixed families Both English and Spanish get along here just fine, never if rarely any incidents among the people, just the Spanish government and some nationalists constantly pushing their revanchism. Which is hypocritical once you realize they have two enclaves on Northern Morocco almost triple the size of Gibraltar lol We like the Spanish culture and people, but heavily dislike their government and management of things. Proud of our British roots who have built up the city beautifully and would never vote to rejoin Spain, whose incompetent government has equal unemployment and corruption rate as Iraq

@FriedrichBarb
@FriedrichBarb Жыл бұрын
@jesusbermudez6775 I would agree with you if you said English* but not for British, for that term has been multicultural for hundreds of years now, and the Canadians, Australians, New Zealanders, and countless other colonies were once considered British but overtime they developed their own culture and identity, which is exactly the same case for Gibraltarians. Though overall youre correct that the Spanish cultural influence on Gibraltar is very strong, and is mostly bc the majority of people in Gibraltar have Italian ancestry so naturally this is the case.
@FriedrichBarb
@FriedrichBarb Жыл бұрын
@jesusbermudez6775 No thats just incorrect though yes there is a noticeable Spanish minority, though majority of surnames are Italian, and many there are pure English also, not just Soldiers thats also incorrect. As for culture yes its mixed im not denying that, but all of Gibraltar's Law, institutions, way of government and most importantly education system for the youth is British, majority of the youth in Gibraltar go to England for University and this is paid for by the government, which are then properly exposed to British culture. This makes a importance difference.
