Return to Rainier | Sunrises and Stormy Weather

Let's road trip Mount Rainier to soak up the summertime goodness of sunrise hikes, wildflowers, and late summer rain storms. We'll swim in alpine lakes, hike to breathtaking mountain views, discover wildlife, and identify native plants while learning about wildflower mountain meadows, volcanoes, peak glaciers and wisdom from nature! There will be no shortage of sunsets in the mountains, yummy hiking/camping meals, old growth forests, and scenic drives. These have been some of my favorite hikes, trails and swim spots in the Sunrise area of Mount Rainer National Park.

Great video of one of my favorite places. I hope you enjoyed your visit here. You may have figured out that we don't rain here as much as we tell people. I always tell people "if you cannot see Mt. Rainier, it is raining. If you can see Mt. Rainier, it is going to rain." 40 years ago it was a short and easy walk to the Carbon Glacier. Now it is quite a trek and it isn't just because the road washed out so you have to park a lot further down the river. All of the glaciers have receded by miles. In the summer now you can see a lot more rock.

That or it’s smoky these days! I couldn’t even see the mountain on my first visit to Rainier two years ago because of fires. I learned a lot about how the glaciers have receded so much! It’s a shame. So cool to see all of that ice on the mountain.

The smoke has been real bad the last several years. I have lived in the Puget Sound Area since the mid 1960's and the wild fires and smoke is new. We are dryer and hotter so we get a lot of fires. There are days where it is unhealthy to go outside.@@kaylanrosa

Yet few seldom have the courage to do it. Yes, Tacoma is near some cool hikes. But there are other parts of WA that are much better for that.
