Hello,
Welcome! Something Special Bonaire ep. 30 | A Diver's Life
For our 30th episode we return back to where the channel began - the Something Special Dive site. Uniquely located next to the entrance to the Harbour Village marina, you will see why this is one of the most popular dive sites on Bonaire. Filmed in HDR, we delve into the macro world, for the first time, and see frogfish, juvenile French Angelfish, a rare golden juvenile Coney, a Secretary Blenny and much, much more. The close vicinity to the harbor entrance and calm waters make this a popular place for macro photographers. Large schools of fish often come into the harbor entrance to feed with their predators close behind. In this episode you will have a front row seat to this as you experience a school of Big-Eye Scad and larger predators coming up out of the deep to attack the school which we capture from below to get all the action. You will also see a large siphonophore and we will zoom in to see that is indeed a colony of hydrozoans and watch how it provides food for fish.
This episode is packed and if you like fish identification this is a super episode for you. So, pull up your arm chair and start taking notes if you can manage to not distracted by the wonder that awaits you. It is 15 minutes of pure joy. If you can, watch this video on an HDR capable television or mobile device and witness nature as it was meant to be seen.

Gray Angels! Nice! Something I’ve never encountered in Bonaire. I have ~130 dives there, but it’s been 10 years since my last trip there. Making that right by heading back in a couple weeks. Question - is the tripod rule part of the marine park rules? I didn’t see it listed on the STINAPA site. TIA!

Question: We see Lion fish in many of your videos. Do you believe we should eliminate them? We most never see you shoot them.
@ADiversLife
@ADiversLife 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, Excellent question. I want to start by saying they are very beautiful fish and wonderful to film. However, they are invasive and they are eating everything in sight. It is our fault (humans) that they have invaded the Caribbean. Left unchecked they will eat everything as they have very few predators in this part of the world. They also breed at alarming rates. So, what we believe is they need to be controlled. We will never get rid of them. We have hunted a number for this reason. So, when you see us filming them I really find them beautiful to film and don't think about hunting them. However, when we do hunt them we are on a mission to reduce their numbers. I was part of a team that actually won the local lionfish derby for STINAPA's 40th anniversary. To be honest, I would prefer they were under control so that I could just be focused on filming them. You don't see us shooting them as we have subscribers from areas like Indonesia, where they are naturally controlled, and get upset when we do film them getting shot. Off camera we do our part to help STINAPA reduce their numbers. We do know how to hunt them. Recently, late afternoon we got a 45cm and to 38 cm fish on one dive. In this earlier video you can see Doreen hunting them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/imKTmGWMi92YoaM
