I’m very experienced angler 50+ years. You are 100+ correct with your method of handling big fish. Many people release big fish, but the most important thing is to release them uninjured. Putting them in a net, and dropping them in the boat will damage them. Biologist’s use a cradle, to obtain measurements and the fish usually doesn’t come out of the water, and is always fully supported. Good videos, filming and content!
@whitelabelfishing2 жыл бұрын
thank you Peter, appreciate it a lot! We try to minimize the use of a net as much as possible and keep the fish in the water as much as we can. Some of the criticism we get is mind baffling but it is what it is 😂✌️
@peterparsons71412 жыл бұрын
@@whitelabelfishing things are much better today than years ago. More people are more aware of how long it takes for these fish to get trophy size. Because you set an example, and show people how to handle these fish, we all get to enjoy having much improved sport angling. Recently in Ontario, Can. December 2022 a 19.02kg northern pike, and its still swimming around ! Just keeps getting better, continue to educate!
@FishNFoolLures2 ай бұрын
I 100% disagree, I think their fish handling was poor at best. You should never let a big fish hang by it's gill plate. they should always be held horizontally with one hand pinching the gill plate and the other hand supporting the belly.

Hi all. Cracking bit of film. And it certainly is a pity you lost that big girl. Im pike fishing for almost 50 years now, and iv seen methods and baits change over the years. I personally never got lured into all the hype about bigger lures, bigger fish, and all that crap. I dont spend good money on those 30cm + lures with tripple hooks almost as big as my fist. I cannot look at these monster hooks as they get burried in a pikes mouth, especially that huge single hook which protrudes from the top of a lot of baits. I hate the thought of these going into the roof of the fishes mouth. I make a lot of my own lures now, as I find it very relaxing and rewarding, and for the past 25 years I have been fishing smaller BARBLESS hooks, and no top hooks ever. If I buy a bait with these on, I snap it off straight away, and then crimp the hooks.. I dont loose fish, and I feel that barbless is easier, safer for the fish, and definitely safer for the angler. I cant help but feel, that had you been able to remove the hooks from the big pike faster, its very possible that you might have landed her. Either ways. I would never mind dropping a fish from time to time on barbless hooks, tight lines in the future. I enjoyed the film. Rwgards Jack Doyle from Ireland

Really enjoyed, thank you so much! Just one suggestion guys, in the UK we use a large unhooking mat in the boat (I use an Aqua Combi Mat). If you hand land a big pike, it goes straight down onto the mat. If it kicks around, it is totally safe and can also be weighed in the mat (we don't measure pike in the UK). Thanks again, super stuff, love your channel!

Glad you liked it! Yeah you silly Brit’s are all about weight 😝 For us it’s such a weird statistic, it depends heavily on how well a big fish had its breakfast ;) Still cool to weigh the heavy hitters though!

Amazing VIDEO! I do recommend a net and hitting neutral on the boat. I've torn the gills on a few big ones when they thrash. Big animals
@whitelabelfishing Жыл бұрын
We normally stop but with a big paravaan system like this you need to keep the boat moving. A net is debatable: I think in a lot of cases it does more damage to the fish and thus its not always the best option. Plus, with a big outdoor trip like this there isn’t that much room for a big net anyway 😂 Glad you like the video man, don’t take my response to harsh. It’s good to openly discuss these topics
