I used to frequent these types of servers (some of them were good, and some also weren't the typical German French occupation or Berlin rp, it really was a weird meta) Obviously I don't rp on them anymore, cause back then I was younger; but I do think roleplay is fun, most of these servers do it in the dumbest way possible. Yes, to answer your question, absolutely, most of the time there was nothing to guard from, just sit around and listen to what the players who are officers say, or else you die or whatever, and hope that someone gives you a reason to kill them, or an event happens, or some resistance dudes try to attack; and they were always better equipped due to the way weapons in gmod work, it was always a stomp. I don't regret spending so much time rp'ing on some of these servers, cause I think I was around for the "golden" age, where people would actually make good servers with memorable maps, I still have friends who ask me to rp again, but respectfully FUCK no, I have way better things to do now than sit at a stupid sandbag waiting for something to happen with KZbin open on another tab.

@@Kian-ly6xz I have a lot of memories from those servers, I've been admin and co-owner on some, I've been high ranking and have done like most of what there is to typically do on those rp servers. The most fun I was being in a shitlord civilian gang, where I had a Russian character (I was like 14-15 at the time, and I still remember faking a shitty accent lol.) We would do stupid stuff a lot, and then get chased by the German soldier players, we'd always tag them hard with pistols and what have you, our ringleader was known for saying, "My dude," after every sentence, it was a good time. I'm still convinced to this day some of those people were genuine neo-nazi's.

The cars they had were nice, and guess who had the perms to spawn them 😎😎😎 we spent a lot of time drag racing cars that we spawned in lmaooo. At times we had multiple people. Damn that was fun. There are a lot of stringent rules about announcing robberies and sometimes only certain classes can do so. I would say in a way this promotes bad faith but you don't just want people doing edgy cheap things all the time so I agree with having raid and rob limits. Only issue is that people take advantage and will attack when you are announcing which is failrp to me because most people would not be able to attack an armed robber that isn't distracted for actual rp reasons and not just communication.

If you do anything but the most predictable thing as a result of having a gun pointed at you, according to these people, it must be because you aren't rping. It's not possible to them that you could do something outside of their expectations. Meanwhile while they bear down on this as an example of failure to rp, they solve all rulebreaking not with the in-character authority figures they base the server around, but instead by calling upon omnipotent moderators to break the entirety of the immersion in order to strongarm you. I mean, wouldn't it be so much more interesting if they did everything in the frame of the story? You move with a gun pointed at you, you get shot. You break a law, it's the burden of the officers to use their finite resources and ability in order to oppose you, not as an inexorable hammer being dropped down on your head, but like cops 'n robbers--both competitive and _fun._ You RDM someone, and his posse of friends comes after you. You mention things out of character, and your character gets treated as if he said it and thus like a schizoprenic or the like, and gets committed. There's so much potential there that isn't just "you get talked down to and then deleted for doing a bad"
