My dad has been an electrician for 30 years and when I was little he worked at the prisons and he would train a group of inmates to be electricians so they knew a trade when they got out and they worked as electricians in the prison. To this day he’s still friends with a few of the former inmates that he met and trained. They’re out now and functioning, successful members of society and good friends of my dads. He gets together with them every few years to catch up and hang out. I think we need to see people in prison as actual people because 1) they are! And 2) when we don’t we miss out on the human connection. These people made mistakes, did their time in prison, used that time to learn to do better and contribute to society and their families and now my dad has a few more lifelong friends that he loves.
