What people who haven't been thru a hurricane don't realize is the duration. Movies that show hurricanes usually have them lasting a few minutes to 1/2 hour, whereas in actuality it it often 12-18 hours from the onset of gale force winds, which GRADUALLY increase to hurricane force and may remain there for 4-8 hours before subsiding back down to 40-50 mph. Frances in 2004 took even longer, with hurricane conditions lasting nearly 24 hrs in some places.

Imagine if it said, “Winds up to 104 mph. GET OUT OF YOUR HOUSE!” Edit: What the heck? At 1:55 I would be screaming and running for my life if that was forecasted for my area.

Hurricane Katrina was a Cat 4 with winds of 145 but the surge did the most damage in eastern Louisiana Mississippi and western Alabama.108billion dollars in damage nearly triple the amount Andrew did! Jeez!

Not to many will experience a forcast like this one & if you ever do you better get the hell out, by the way if you wonder why it says hurricane warning twice, first one is for a "inland hurricane warning" & the other one is the "hurricane warning" for the coast!!
@kurzovarchives306 жыл бұрын
The NWS has since discontinued the "inland hurricane warning", FYI

@@Zarugoza5969 we have a new one that got made in 2013, and TWC sticks with that one.

@Matthewtheechidna actually IT was "only" a Cat 3 - 125 mph 1 minute wind at best when it hit the gulf coast.
